I got the order in the afternoon of the 15th, 13:45 pst according to paypal but it wasn't charged completely until that evening, so I'm thinking they may have run out of money by that point. Kinda sucks, but I did still get decent deals from Newegg as usual.

Well I went in for the entire system, around $1100 shipped, with about $85 worth of mail in rebates and the Paypal 15% which means probably around $50 max. It always takes them awhile to process the PayPal orders because they want to make sure your shipping to the Paypal confirmed address.

Overclocking SLI 7800gt's

No the P180 Antec case that I have doesn't have a side fan, and thanks for the advice on the sound card. I probably will swap the posistion on them.

So, I have a couple of BFG 7800 GT OC's in SLI mode and the thing that pisses me off about them the most is the f'n cooling units. Absolutely the most difficult things to clean in terms of the fan. Now I know these two cards are getting a bit long in the tooth, now that Nvidia has announce G80...

Solaris 10 06/06 Released!

Great suggestion! I've run a few of these releases in test environments and they are pretty up-to-snuff. I hate having to download new ISO's every few weeks, that can get quite annoying but Sun does use Torrents...

Check your environment, do: #set or #$PATH and see what comes back, or just find out where the commands you can't run are and see if you can run them from the literal path, ie instead of #ifconfig -a run #/usr/sbin/ifconfig -a

su as root

Sounds like it's not taking your .profile or ksh.profile. Do a $su - and it should prompt you for a password. Then it will read your environment files correctly.

A hard drive corrupt such as checksum errors can lead the OS to believe that the file is missing. Run it for giggles anyway.

Put a Windows XP CD in, boot, get to the recovery console and run a full chkdsk, just to make sure the harddrive hasn't been corrupted.

Adding a XP Workstation to Samba - XP configuration

Well assuming you are using DHCP for you client machine, it should be checked for the default (get netbios settings from DHCP server, if not use Netbios over TCP/IP), your samba should be setup with a server string name and be setup for share level permissions.

If I remember correctly when you first run the vnc server daemon from the menu it asks you if you want to create a password, otherwise I think there is a vncpasswd command to set it.

How's the Motorola V551 compared to the Motorola Razr V3???

Not worth it; keep the V551 or exchange it for a Nokia 3650 which is EDGE ready, memory expansion capablities, mp3 player, AIM, and most importantly has good voice/data quality.

Why can't you add the drive(s) and promote the disk to dynamic, then mirror it. Shouldn't take more than a hour or two of downtime.

UPS is on the way with my Inspiron 6000 today

You might want an AIW card (Radeon based) just for S-Video alone. The quality does make a difference from just your simple S-video out, you'll also get S-Video in. Just cause you don't want TV/Cable, there are other reasons such as X-Box/PS2 input on it. I have a Value 5.1 in mine, works...

Does you case have a set of USB/Speaker plugs on the front? Might be one of the metal/copper connectors coming in contact with your case. Personally have had this happen to me the last two computers I have built.

XP pro system keeps hanging up on shut down or stand by.

Get something like pstools (http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/pstools.shtml) and see if you can watch the processes, maybe see what is hanging up your boot.

Who is hard drive manufacturer? You might want to download their suite of diagnostic software and run it. Windows won't be able to find defects like that software can.

Have you tried the latest drivers from the leadtek site: http://www.leadtek.com.tw/support/download.asp?pronameid=82 Sound card info? Do you have a Creative-based card? You might want to try new drivers for that as well. Can you take a pic of the back of your PC, show how it's hooked up?
