Any problems with the Radeon 8500 and everquest?

A lot of people on the Rage 3d forums seem to have a lot of problems in general. I've never had any show stopping problems with my 8500(although I've never tried it with everquest) but it seems the vocal minority own those forums and take every opportunity to complain. I really don't have...

Motherboard for Athlon XP --- argh still can't decide...

Get the dragon+ if you want the features. If installed correctly and assuming you don`t get a doa board(it happens occasionally from all manufacturers) then it is as stable as anything. I`m up almost a month now with absolutely no problems. And a word about asking questions like this on...

*Soyo Drangon CD-Rom problem ( brains needed)

Enable raid in the BIOS and then when you are booting into windows it should find your extra promise ide controller and ask you for drivers. Go to your Soyo cd and select the windows 2000 ultra family drivers(the path to them is in the manual somewhere and they work fine on win xp) and install...

Soyo Dragon+ Ultra - Can this be the next motherboard

I think he just invented it so don't get your hopes too high. It does sound good though but most of the changes you made are for future proofing the dragon and not really all that important for right now. I'd like to see the dimm voltage adjustable and the 1/5 and 1/6 pci dividers but I'll...

Hardware junkies, this is your time to shine!!!

I second the KT266A chipset but which motherboard completely depends on what features you are looking for. You might just want to do a forum search on 266a or go back a few pages in the motherboard forum and I'm sure you'll find this question asked a couple of times.

    761 or 266A

Well, it's the Asus and therefore the most expensive 266A out there but it seems to perform well(I really wouldn't expect anything less from an asus). If you are looking for a mobo with all of the features that the asus has I'd also recommend looking into the dragon+. It's what I bought and I...

    Absolute stability

Well unfortunately in life nothing is absolute. I run my dragon + with a fsb of 140 and the turbo bios settings and it has not crashed on me once since I installed it three weeks ago. Does this mean that if you buy this motherboard it will be the same for you? That is anyone's guess. These...

    !! Dragon Plus & Large HDD !!

I have a 60GB 60GXP and I had absolutely no problems formatting it or installing win 98 SE and win XP. Is it possible that both of the drives you tried previously had issues? If it wasn't for the fact that your latest drive seems to work I'd say you got a bad ide controller but now I'm just...

poll: best mobo: 8kha+ or dragon or AK31A

Well I'm pretty sure the 8kha+ will win this one because it is the one most people around the forums went out and bought. Your original question was about stability though so all I can tell you is that since I flashed to the new bios on the dragon+ I have never had the computer crash and in...

Dragon Plus and Crucial Memory Problem

Ya that definately sounds like some kind of hardware problem cause I've got two sticks of 256 meg crucial ddr that are in turbo mode and at a 140 fsb and I haven't had any problems at all. Have you tried removing everything but the video card and ram? If you try that and its still no go it...

    Soyo Dragon Plus IDE question

Well I know you can use the promise conroller as another at ide controller. You simply have to swich over a jumper(the only one the board has) and then install the ultra 100 drivers instead of the raid ones. I don't see why the promise controller wouldn't allow you to have masters and slaves...

Don't buy a Soyo Dragon Plus MB

Well the abit board just came out and there hasn't been much time to find problems with it and from what I've seen not too many people on the boards are jumping at paying the rather heafty price that asus is demanding. Now, I'm far from saying that that the asus or abit boards will be unstable...

Don't buy a Soyo Dragon Plus MB

Yes there is such a thing as bad boards you know. Take a spin around the forums and take a look at all the people who seem to be having no problem and then maybe think of a more constructive title to your thread. If you're having problems(and you haven't been very specific as to what they...

Soyo Dragon Plus - UBS getting disabled ?

Did you set your board into "turbo" mode? Whenever you do that it sets all usb ports to disabled for some reason. If thats the case then its not a big issue just set them back to enabled and enjoy.

    Gigabyte GA-7VTXH Motherboard Reviews?

I too have found the Gigabyte GA-7VTXH reviews to be a little sparse but from what I have been able to find it seems that it is a little behind the curve in performance. I think it was included in that roundup at Tom's Hardware with a little blurb on it. I don't know bout how stable the Dragon...

What KK266A mobo should i get?

If you are interested in getting built in features then I would go with the soyo dragon+. With the new bios I haven't had it crash in the two weeks I've had it and I have my memory timings in turbo mode. I haven't tried overclocking it yet but I can say I'm very impressed and the raid...

    8500 Retail v/s OEM

but they have the same speed of RAM so it seems like it was just an arbitrary decision on the part of ati. The OEM part also doesn't come with the truform inhanced versions of counterstrike, halflife and team fortress.

SPEAKER SHOOTOUT--> Altec Lansing ACS-54 or ACS-56??? *confused*

I just got the ACS-54 a month ago while I was building my new computer and I have to say I'm completely content with them. I'm sure that they are nowhere near as good as Klipcsh setup but between these speakers and my new Hercules GTXP my new computer sounds a million times better than my old...

    boot up problems

Actually no I meant I had the problem with my M70 and it went away with the 900NF. I guess in that case it must be some kind of software problem as my 900NF works flawlessly without the start button ever getting deformed. Reinstalling windows will just fix up any windows files that may have...

    boot up problems

I can't help you with your main problem there but I can tell you that the start button getting messed up is most likely due to your monitor. I used to have a HP M70 monitor that would do that all the time and I was still using that monitor with this rig after I just built it. As soon as I...

Friends HP computer loses mouse whenever connecting to internet.

I suppose that flashing the bios might help somehow but when you've got to the point where you've removed every piece of hardware that came with the hp and you're now trying to destroy every bit of hp software it might be simpler to tell your friend to buy a new computer(sure worked for me). If...

Friends HP computer loses mouse whenever connecting to internet.

I used to have a HP 9682C which as far as I was ever able to figure out was the Canadian version of the 9680 with all the same hardware. I never had any trouble with my mouse dissapearing but that could be because I never used that stupid audio/modem thing as a modem. I think I read recently on...

    Upgraded from Intel P2-400 to T-Bird 900 a while ago...questions.

If you're looking for a sense of power in games then you just really need to upgrade your video card. I don't think that anything over a 900Mhz Cpu is going to make too much difference unless you own a Geforce 3 and overclock the hell out of it. If you don't want to go all the way to a Geforce...

Help! TV capture video card needed.

As far as I know the difference is that the VE can only capture in AVI format. As I said before is a gig a minute and you can't change the quality level to make the size more manageable so unless you have a couple of massive harddrives sitting around you'll never be able to capture any long program.

Help! TV capture video card needed.

It comes with the software for AVI and MPEG-01 but if you want to convert those to a more managable size you'd have to get some other program(I never really looked into it much)but gygheyzeus is right you can modify the quality of MPEG-01 recording to make the size much more manageable. Depends...

Help! TV capture video card needed.

Or if you want to keep your old video card then you can get the ATI TV Wonder. I'm using it in Windows 98SE and have had no problems(I've heard the cards Win2K Drivers are suspect though) The only real problem is that if you want to get the best picture quality you have to go with the AVI...

Taking Tape Off TIM = Good

Hey its not too easy you know. When I first installed my PIII 1Ghz I left the puddy on the heatsink and put arctic silver II all over the cpu(not just the die). I missed the link on the arctic silver website and did what I thought would work. When I finally realized how the arctic silver was...

I'm really not to sure what I want in a monitor. I really think those LCD things look awesome but from what I understand they're stuck in one resolution and not too good for gaming(not to mention $$$$$) so I figure either a 17" or 19" something. This is by far my least researched...

Differeces between Unbuffer & Registered PC2100 DDR ???

Unbuffered is normal RAM for home use while registered and ECC RAM are for servers. Most motherboard won't even accept the registered or ECC RAM and those that do take a slight performance hit from it. Basically if your not using your comp as a server get unbuffered.

Hey ya thanks and I do plan on getting another 256 megs of RAM but I kinda want to get the rest of the system up and running first. And as for the sound card I am definately going to go with some kind of 5.1 setup eventually. My old computer was always in the family room and I'm moving this...

Any way to use a Sony PlayStation 2 controller on my PC?

Well, I don't think its possible but I have a Logitech Wingman rumblepad and besides the pressure sensitive buttons and a couple of shoulder buttons it works exactly like a PS2 pad(with a throttle thrown in for looks). Should be pretty cheap too.

Yah I know the PIII is a dead end but when I bought it I figured that the Tualatin would work in any socket 370 MB. Oh well, I'm going to stick with the PIII for a while and probably go with one of those 2Ghz+ Northwood P4s when they come out and come down to a reasonable price but I think 1 Ghz...
