I personally like +R with bitsetting to DVD-ROM on my PC and it seems to work really well with my DVD players.
For my set top Lite-On DVD Recorder I use -R because it seems to like that better.
Some of both are almost always on my shelf.
The A540 also has 6 megapixels instead of the 5 that the A530 has.
I have the A530 and it is a great camera.
The larger view finder is going to eat up the batteries faster if you use the view finder, but if the extra megapixel is worth $60 to you, then go for it.
I personally like the Canon printers and all-in-ones. I just bought the MP530 and have been very happy with it. The 830 is an even better piece of equipment.
It is pretty easy to slip stream your own legal Windows XP copy with the latest service pack and the instructions to do this and create a bootable XP disk are online.
I have been using the same set of instructions now for so long I don't remember where I got them from. Google search for...
Sounds like bad RAM.
Like the others mentioned, download and create a Memtest+ bootable diskette (it does it all for you when you run the downloaded file).
Memtest+ does not need to go into Windows and will test the memory completely.
I have had a lot of experience with the Canon PowerShot A530 and have enjoyed it a lot.
Takes great pictures and is easy on the batteries. 4X optical zoom and 5 MPixels is a great combination at a great price. The A540 is the same 4X optical zoom but has 6 MPixels and a larger screen on the...
Intermittent restarting is a difficult problem to diagnose.
I would probably start by running memtest on the RAM.
After that, swap out the power supply if you can get a hold of an extra good one.
My guess is that if it isn't one of those two, it's probably the motherboard.
The idea of the bus defaulting to the lower speed has not been true for quite a while as long as you are using 80 wire cable.
If you only have two devices then it is best to keep them on separate channels because then they don't have to share the bandwidth of the channel.
The most common formats right now are Comact Flash (CF) and Secure Digital (SD).
I think MMC and SD are compatible.
The SD cards are smaller and about the same price as CF,
and are being used in more and more products, so it might be the best choice.
How new is the burner, sometimes you need to upgrade the software (Nero) to get it to recognize the newest burners.
Not sure about Windows XP recognition though.
It looks like the "+" has essentially won the war.
In my experience as long as I can change the media Book Type from DVD+R to DVD-ROM, then it offers ultimate compatibility even with older stand alone DVD players.
I had to get the Booktype utility from Lite-On though.
Anybody know if NEC offers...
The freezer trick sometimes works to get you that last needed access to the drive.
Put the drive in a ziplock (to minimize condensation) and put it in the freezer for 30 minutes.
Take it out and hook it up to your computer and cross your fingers.
Usually buys some time.
If they want to squeeze as much as they can out of the processor, then get a mobile one and a GOOD cooling solution. The mobile processors start at a lower voltage, and are completely unlocked, so if you raise the voltage the 0.2 Volts back up to 1.65, lower the stock multiplier and throw the...
My experience has been that the adapters are a hassle, so I would suggest going with an IDE RAID card or go with a motherboard that has onboard IDE RAID like the ASUS P4P800 Deluxe. I think it is only running $25 more than the non-deluxe version.
Lonyo kind of spelled out the advantages of each.
Regular - 333 MHz FSB stock & can be purchased with a heatsink&fan (Retail)
or without (OEM) multiplier locked - harder to overclock
Mobile - 266 MHz FSB stock but lower voltage so that it is easier to overclock...
For $250 you should be able to get something decent.
If you plan on spending about $100 on 512 MB RAM, that leaves $150 for CPU and mobo.
A 2500+ Barton retail can be had a Newegg for $80.
The motherboard should be then selected with the remaining $$$.
The Abit NF7 is nice, but it is close to...
I agree with bontu. A new motherboard is in order.
You might need a new processor now as well since it no longer boots on your dad's machine.
You should be able to pick up some parts pretty cheap though since you don't need anything high end.
The dual layer burners are just becoming available, but the media is still really pricey and/or non-existent. If it were me, I would get a dual layer burner now and wait for media availablility to go up and price to go down.
By the way, dual layer means you can burn 8.5 GB onto a disc instead of...
You're using sound built into the motherboard right?
It sounds like your motherboard drivers are not completely installed.
Put that CD in and it should autorun and give you the options to install your sound drivers.
Since Anandtech selected it as an editor's choice, I would probably look at the
AOpen "AK86-L"
It uses the K8T800 and only costs $92
It does not have firewire or IDE RAID, so factor that into your analysis
An nFroce3 250 chipset motherboard that is available is the
GIGABYTE "GA-K8NS PRO"
It...
I probably wouldn't suggest you start worrying about overclocking right now.
The suggestions made here are good ones, and unless you've got money to burn, they are much more reasonable.
The suggestions I'm talking about are a Athlon XP 2800+ (Barton core) with a 9800 Pro video card.
This level...
I know you posted this forever ago, but I discovered that the IS7 will not support Celerons less than 2.0 GHz. I tried two different 1.8s to no avail. The voltages are supported and supposedly a BIOS update helped the board to recognize them, but it was all no good.
As soon as I went to the 2.0...
When I need to look at what's available in VIVO video
cards, I go to the video card section of Newegg and
select S-Video as the first INPUT and hit search.
The first couple that come up in the list are not really
VIVO, so look past those. I think the cheapest one
they have is a Radeon 9200 for...
I agree with this guy. I think if you are planning to take this into your next
system, then a Radeon 9600 Pro or a Radeon 9500 Pro would be the way
to go. If you are not planning on taking it into your next system, then get
a 9200 for less than $100 and get a better card later.
256 mb is a waste...
So why in the world did NVIDIA go with 32 bit?
They must have been figuring that since they
could do 16 bit with good performance then the
32 bit registers could each take 2 16 bit chunks
easily thus making the 16 bit to 32 bit conversion
more efficient.
Why not go 24 bit with the ability to...
If you are not planning on overclocking and it is not damaged that bad,
then I would say not to worry about it. If it really concerns you, you
can remove the pad and apply some thermal grease instead.
<edit>
Just read your response. The layer of AS3 should be very thin and it
should cover the...
That's what I was going to say.
With the popularity of combo drives now, a lot of OEMs are putting them in even their basic PCs. I have DVD-ROMs in both machines at home, but one is because it is in my daughter's room and she watches TV & movies (VHS & DVD) on her PC (gotta love the All-in-Wonder).
Being Jewish can either define one's religion OR one's race.
People can convert to Judaism but that does not make them
of the Jewish race.
Jewish people can practice any religion they choose, but they
are still Jewish by race.
Now, that being said, the person who started this thread did
not say...
I personally think Beauty and the Beast is the best animated movie
made by Disney. I think Mary Poppins is the best non-animated movie
made by Disney (but it did mix some animation in there).
When Toy Story first came out all of the info on Pixar said that they
signed a three picture deal which...
It should notify you of a failed array when you boot up and then give you a chance to press F4 or ctrl-s to enter the RAID utility. Then you can rebuild the array or delete the array if you want to pull the other hard drive out. Once the array is deleted you should be able to boot normally from...
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I used to be in here quite a lot and would offer suggestions when I had an idea about a problem someone was having, but I haven?t been able to be in here as much lately.
Well, I have been having a problem with the Serial ATA stuff on an Intel D845PEBT2 motherboard. The OS...
