Laptop Power supply voltage question

If I plug a 16.5V power adapter into a laptop that requires 19.5V, what could potentially be damaged, if anything?

Hard Drive scores dropped???

your scores will always be highest with a fresh install of windows. you may have installed a program that you didnt install on your old drive that makes a big difference. either way, the older and more used the installation is, the slower it will get. thats why i try to reinstall win2k at...

Which HSF Gives Best Quiet Cooling?

for around 17 shipped, i got a thermalright ax-7 which comes close to those others, and isnt audible with an ultra quiet fan from svc.

Best windows resolution for 19" monitor?

my entire freshman year, i ran my viewsonic 19" monitor at 1920x1440. it was glorious. now, since i live with my girlfriend, i have to live with 1280x1024. but i think its a good resolution.

basically, yes - all you need is an access point. one important thing to make sure you keep in mind, however, is security. make sure you have WEP enabled, have static ip's (as opposed to dynamic) and only allow access for your mac addresses. those are all configurable in the access point's...

Heatsink for Athlon XP

it also depends on what fan youre running on it. if you are concerned with noise, you may want to invest in an 80mm heatsink, since you will get the same or better cooling with less noise (80mm fans can push the same air, while making much less noise)

What in a computer can make audible noise?

you didnt mention anywhere in your post (unless i completely missed it) about your hard drive. try defregmenting, and see if that noise sounds anything like the noise you hear from those tests. your hard drive would be my first guess for the source.

What would you rather have, a p4 2.4b or an amd 2400+ ? (NO overclocking)

if i had to pay for it, definitely the amd with a nice nforce mobo. otherwise, based solely on benchmarks, i think id have to say the intel (avid amd fan that i am)

heatsink recommendation?

i just ordered an AX-7 from heatsink factory with an 18dB fan from svc. all under $40 shipped. for quiet cooling, i dont think you can do much better.

athlon 2400+ HSF Recommended please

for the money, and if you dont plan on overclocking much, the sk-7 should be fine (its certainly at least as good as an amd stock heatsink)

what temps do you get? thats the same setup im thinking of putting together, but am unsure how well the ax-7 will cool with such small airflow (im gonna put an 18cfm fan on mine)

More Quiet & Better Cooling (air, not water or ice plz)

im going to be buying an ax-7 with the panaflo fan, soon. i think thats a very good "quiet" heatsink (cools well with slow fans), but its hard to find.

how good is the ax-7 compared to the slk-800?

is it worth paying $34 for an ax-7 over $25 for an sk-7? i plan on buying one of those tbreds from newegg, and pumping up to around 2400 - 2600 speeds. bear in mind, noise (or lack of noise) is very important to me, so i will be putting a panaflo l1a on whichever one i buy.

well, according to that data, kingston seems to be the fastest of the three newegg has, plus its the cheapest 512 meg CF card on the site! i guess i know what ill be getting. thanks for the info, frugal!

well, since a 512 card is no more per meg than a 256 card, which brand is better (does it even matter?): Memorex, kingmax, or kingston? those are all around $120 from newegg. are there any advantages to getting the smaller card? i.e., speed, reliability etc.?
