What is this part of the the hard drive for?

it looks like some models from WD have it while others don't. Why would this part be "exposed" in certain models? True, everything is breakable, just don't want it to be extra fragile.

J3455 vs N3700 for the NUC?

ok, I will look at those too, thanks. The problem with the others though from MSI or Zotac is that they don't usually come with a OS which ends up raising the total cost. The Nuc with the OS (Win 10 home) is about $200 to $230 for the ones I looked at.

J3455 vs N3700 for the NUC?

The Celeron J3455 version of the NUC is about $30 more expensive than the Pentium N3700 after taxes. Is it worth spending $30 more for the J3455?

What is this part of the the hard drive for?

https://i.imgur.com/EyYqU3y.jpg I outlined it in red, but what is that part of the hard drive for? It looks like a red Led...is it made of glass or plastic? This from the back a WD drive (WD3200BVVT). I wonder if it that part is breakable if it is made of glass.

Which Sata extension or connector to use.

good points, I think what you are saying is correct. I won't be moving it around, so the cable can be attached with something in place. I will keep looking a bit more though...maybe there is a connector that works in this type of arrangement specifically and clicks in place.

Which Sata extension or connector to use.

I know, but what if sometime in the future I wanted the hard drive outside of the unit for some reason? I could try doing that to the cable, then it may become loose and come out of the pc connector easily. If the connector was a little higher then maybe the linked cables would've have worked...

Which Sata extension or connector to use.

I have been looking at mini pc's, and there is one that allows hard drive to be attached to the bottom (Acepc T11). It has the following connector at the bottom when the cover is removed: Picture of bottom I was trying to find a Sata extenstion cable that would fit in that connector, but so...

    Fax to email appliance/server?

Are there any fax to email Hardware solutions for home? I am looking to just plug the device into the phone line (RJ11) and into a ethernet connection. That way, it will receive the fax and send it to a email address automatically. I searched, and found the following...

Health effects of AC routers and N routers (2.4ghz vs 5ghz).

I guess I was asking more about going with a AC router or a N router. If you had a choice between the two, which one would you go with if health/safety was the concern? Certainly there many things that can cause problems but I think it is better to lessen them, especially inside the house. I...

Health effects of AC routers and N routers (2.4ghz vs 5ghz).

I am looking into the health effects of AC routers vs N only routers and I am finding that many articles state that the 5ghz frequency is safer than 2.4ghz? However, isn't AC more than just 5ghz and maybe transmits signals at a much higher "rate" and distance? I am wondering if it is better to...

Tablet not connecting to monitor, Hdmi cable related?

I have a TW700 Winbook tablet and I was trying to get it to connect to a LCD monitor that has a DVI output. I am using a Trip lite DVI to micro-hdmi connector to connect the tablet to the monitor (HP L1950g) but the tablet won't detect this monitor. I tried turning on-off, unplugging, going...

    Case fan vibration causing noise.

One of the case fan (80mm, can't use a 120mm) is causing noise, although when I leave the fan outside by itself, I don't notice noise at all. So, I think the vibration is causing the (thin) metal of the case to vibrate...its like a whiny noise. Anything I can use to reduce or eliminate this...

Direct contact heatsink uneven heat dissipation (Hyper TX3).

yes, I mean, they have aluminum gaps then copper. To me, it would be better if the base was uniform rather than with gaps because it looks like the cpu will be hotter in the aluminum areas always.
  19. I

Direct contact heatsink uneven heat dissipation (Hyper TX3).

I wonder why is it that they don't make flat bases for heatsinks anymore. Its actually very difficult to find one now... I just think it makes more sense to have a flat area contacting the cpu rather than having "gaps" here are there. The pipes like that at the bottom may or may not work...

Direct contact heatsink uneven heat dissipation (Hyper TX3).

I am looking at the bottom of the Hyper TX3 from coolermaster: http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-air-cooler/hyper-tx3/ I see that it has three heatpipes at the bottom. The problem looks to be that there is a copper pipe, then there is a gap of (aluminum?) then another copper pipe...

    PCI slot cover touches motherboard.

I thought they were quite sturdy, but they seemed to work the best for me. One end of them would go to the outside of the slot and then they would just snap into place (some had option for screws on the top too).

    PCI slot cover touches motherboard.

Sorry, I think this image will explain it more: http://i.imgur.com/0hTZPyJ.png Its not touching the top of the motherboard, but the edge as you mentioned it. You said that it is ok for it to do that, but I thought the motherboard shorts out if it touches part of the case...either way, I...

    PCI slot cover touches motherboard.

The end of the slot piece is supposed to go all the way down into the motherboard tray area, but these covers are about a few mm short so they kind of slant forward towards the end which makes them touch the motherboard. The thing is that all pci covers are about 4-3/4" long from what I have...

    PCI slot cover touches motherboard.

I have put a pci slot cover on a open slot, and it doesn't go all the way down into the case hole at the bottom. If the slot cover touches the motherboard, will the motherboard short out? I don't know if its the case that was the wrong height slots in the back, but I thought all covers were...

Why have AMD APUs failed on the market?

To me, at least, I think this whole Apu thing basically caused confusion with people. If you're a gamer, why would you want a APU which will most likely disable its graphics portion if you were to insert a separate graphics card? Plus you can only use a certain graphics card and not another...

    Which Sata cables to use?

lol, ok joking aside, I didn't see UL marking on brand name cables either but they have a number that begins with a "E" so "Exxxxx" and then a UR mark where the R is in reverse. The E number I was able to find on the UL database website, so there is something there I think. thanks for the tip :)
