Longest Lasting HDD models ?

I don't think there are any good models; it's all luck of the draw. Get a good one and it'll last 5 years or more. Get a bad one and you've seen what happens. Hard drives fail - it's a fact of life. I work as a PC repair tech and it happens all the time, on all brands and models, old...

16 hours of Orthos and 14 of Memtest86+ is good, but I would not assume your OC is 100% stable. I have seen Orthos / Prime error out after 16 or more hours of testing many times, same goes for Memtest. I would check out MemTest Pro (HCI labs IIRC). I've found it to be superior to...

Just got 1700+B and NF7-S Rev 2.0

I just got the exact same stuff earlier this week :D I tried the Soundstorm for a day or two and didn't like it. It just sounded hollow, kinda flat. Put my Audigy2 back in and the difference is huge. But to each his own. My chip is 100% stable at 2.4GHz (200x12) -- Primed it for 2 nights...

Be careful when you lump Deus Ex into the same "FPS" heap with the rest of those games. Deus Ex is First Person Stealth before Shooter. If you can't tell I'm a Deus Ex fanatic.

Which is better? Epox 8k7a or EPoX 8KHA+?

The 8kha+ ruled back in the day, but as others have said, don't waste your time with either of those boards now... unless you can get it for $20 and just want to have something to play with.

Raven Shield and a 9700?

I suggest the Catalyst 3.1's. There are newer ones (3.2's) but I've had problems with the 3.2's. Just head to ATi.com or Rage3d.com.

Did you try this yet? Also, which ISP do you use? I can tell you that MSN is terrible about this stuff, particularly the Messenger IM program.

Just installed windows 2k and the PC won't shut down

Sounds like ACPI. Maybe check out the BIOS to see if it's supported. If it is, you might have to reinstall Windows again though for it to take effect.

BF1942 Patch 1.31 Released

I'm using the latest drivers (dated Feb. 11 on Creative's site) and I can still only get 31 channels as opposed to 63 with the 1.3 patch :( I did a clean install of the game as well, still no luck.

Bootvis, works great

I've tried this program a couple of times and it's never done anything for me. It claims to optimize your startup, boot into Windows faster, etc... I wish it did but it just seems to have no effect.

Why do so many AT users hate Musicmatch?

I plunked down $50 for MMJB 2 years ago and I have never regretted it. It rips, burns, plays, organizes, does everything I need. Great interface, stable as well. They really seem to care about fixing bugs and improving features, unlike a lot of other companies out there.

is it worth to water cool?

Water is very rewarding (much better cooling and generally less noise) but can take a lot of effort. If you set it up right though, about the only maintenance you need is checking it periodically for lost water, cleaning off the radiator (dust) maybe every 6 months, etc. I quit water recently...

What's so great about lite-on burners?

I love my LiteOn 48x24x48. And it is very quiet. Now my LiteOn dvd drive on the other hand, I feel like tossing it some days. It is incredibly loud... I look out my window sometimes thinking an airplane has just gone overhead.

Largest Processor Abit KT7-Raid can take..

The latest version of the board (Rev. 1.3 I think, don't hold me to that) can take XP's. My brother runs a Morgan Duron on his, I can't remember if I ever stuck an XP in it or not, but in the bios it has support for them.
