Which is a better Soundcard?

I've had both in my box, and the GTXP is clearly better. Get the $85? version from Newegg. The only advantages the Audigy has are EAX3 and Firewire. EAX3 sounds great in GTA3 and terrible in JKII (haven't listened to it in SOFII). Other companies will pick up the technology in future products...

i850E w/DDR

Or the P4X266/P4X266A/P4X333 chipsets. I wouldn't recommend them, though. They just haven't impressed me.

Is P4 1.8A as overclockable as P4 1.6A?

The 1.6A seems to overclock better percentage-wise, but the 1.8A would have a higher top end, due to the higher multiplier. End performance would however be similar, due to the 1.6A's higher FSB. Your call, personally I'd go with the 1.8A.

From everything I've seen, Samsung is currently the best, and it's cheaper than Corsair (the brand I recommended until recently).

Can SiS 645DX chipset lock pci/agp freq?? Need help finding right mb to o/c.

What the heck is this? a HEATSPREADER??

The Hammer IHS' we've seen so far don't have the small hole that the P4 IHS' do. I would assume AMD would follow suit with Thoroughbred if they were to add an IHS.

Yes, it's German. Use BabelFish or the Google toolbar to translate it if you want. There are far too many variables for it to be a valid benchmark, let alone to base a purchasing choice on. But it's a great idea, and a lot of fun to watch :)

antec power supply tester- does it only test to see if the ps is dead?

What are you using to measure that? If it's software, it'll need to be an accurate program. Asus Probe for one is known not to be. Your 12v line is rather low, that's very possibly the issue.

XP 1900+ or P4 1.6a?

The Athlon could also be a dud and not OC at all. But of course the 1900+ performs better at stock speeds than the 1.6A. I'd go for the 1.6A, you should be able to get a good OC this late in the game, and it'll outperform the 1900+ when you get it up there.

SB Platinum vs Hercules G.T. XP, who wins?

I've never owned an Audigy myself, but I'm familiar with them, as two friends have them. So far I am not impressed at all, but Advanced HD might change that (regrattably, I haven't had a chance to play Jedi Knight II with Advanced HD enabled yet). The Audigy has several of the same shortcomings...

Better choice for P4 overclocking system?

Go with RDRAM, and see if you can't pick up some of the Samsung PC1066 that's starting to appear on Pricewatch. P4T-E vs. TH7II is an ongoing dilemma, I recommend the TH7II, but like Jumpem said, I'm biased (I have a TH7II-RAID).

Samsung relased info on 40ns RAM...

The Mushkin is $70 for a 128MB stick. More than I feel like paying at the moment. I think it was MemPlus.com that had 256MB sticks of Samsung for $97, which is $12 more than Samsung PC800 most places. They pulled it back off their site, perhaps they got too many orders and ran out?

safe to remove thermal pad from cpu die?

No, you absolutely should remove it from both the CPU and heatsink. I just used a little green scrubbing pad like you use for dishes. Worked on my Tbird and my P4.

is there a adapter to make a 4pin molex able to plug in P4 power plug on mobo??

Wireless gamepad?

The only other one I know of is the Intel one. That'd be even more though, unless you already have the hub. And of course, they closed that division. You could probably find it on eBay.

What mobo, case and PS for an upgrade?

The 8KHA+'s were only $99 last time I looked. You won't find a whole lot cheaper than that, and it'll give you upgradeability. Besides, if you like the board, stick with it. As for case/PSU, just go to a local store and see if you can get a case without a PSU. Then grab a 300-350W Enermax...

Stinky rounded cables

Hang a couple of those Christmas tree air fresheners in front and back of the case, so the fans blow the smell in and out. Doubt it'd work, but you never know :D

The Alpha PAL8942T heatsink (for P4 socket 478)

Flashing RAID board with possibly non-RAID BIOS?

In case anyone's interested, apparently there aren't actually separate BIOSes for RAID and non-RAID versions of this board (or possibly all Abit boards), and the BIOS flash worked perfectly. Now I've got up to 1.85v for my Northwood, so I should have lots of fun overclocking tonight. :D

There will be a B or C at the end of the first line on the core. B = 200, C = 266.

Sound Card Installation Trouble

I've heard bad things about Vortex2 and ME, but I know it works ok in 98 and XP. Drivers for XP are included in the OS. I'd suggest you go back to 98 (or better yet, go to XP).

A7V266 E, Memory, Two Sicks Or One

Actually, I faintly remember benchmarks where 2 sticks were better than one. This was most likely due to interleaving. However, the difference was very small (certainly not noticeable). I would think 2x256MB would be cheaper than 1x512MB, but upgrading might be tougher.
