Media Storage hard drive

I'm thinking of getting a new hard drive strictly for media storage/playback. Given that I have a very modest system, would getting a 5400 noticalbly decrease performance?

Monitor going?

rachel: should my comp screen be making an annoying high pitched sound? qkslvrwolf: no... qkslvrwolf: no it really shouldn't rachel: if i hit it it stops rachel: but it starts up again after a while Is this the sound/sign of a monitor going? Never had one die on me so I wouln't know.

Best 7200 RPM HD, which is?

Just out of curiousity, last time I was in the market for a hard drive (granted, it was 3 years ago) everyone said western digitals crapped out after only a couple of years...were they bullshit or has WD improved? (As I"m thinking of buying an mp3/movie hard drive right now)

Yet Another Power Supply Question

You could, of course, upgrade anyway and sell me the cpu for cheap...;) Not that I think a 1700 would work in my MSI K7t Turbo, can't remember.

yeah, the Live doesn't work, or doesn't seem to. I'm not really much of a techie, but I can get most hardwear to work on the base level, and neither I nor my dad could get soundblaster live he bought to work in mine or his machine, so that's out, unless someone has a fix for me. As for 5.1...

Ok, thanks to everyone for their input...just one extension question: What kind of life are these cards going to have? For instance, the only thing preventing my Aureal Vortex from not still being a good card is that complete lack of drivers for it...am I going to run into this same problem...
