Boot slow after installing XP

I just installed Windows XP and it seems to have really slowed down the boot. The problem is, when it's on the initial black screen, just after displaying the configuration table and the "PCI Device listing", it seems to just hang without any activity for quite a while before launching into XP...

CPU Speed not recognized

Win95 or Win98SE for Pentium 166

actually, there are some ad programs running but they're not open at this time. I have to have them installed in order for some other shareware apps that I run. I don't think they'll interfere as these shareware apps aren't open when this problem occurs. By the way, will it help to upgrade to...

Thanks for the tip. I tried it and actually found that even after closing IE, the process iexplorer.exe was in fact still running so I ended the process but the problem is still there. Do you know what else could be causing this? Also, howcome the iexplorer.exe process is running even when IE...

Win2K on Duron 850

I have a Duron 850Mhz with 128MB, 100Mhz RAM and quite a slow HDD (DMA 33). I'm thinking of installing Win2K. Will my system be string enough for this or should I stick with Win98? Will it be more sluggish with Win2K? Thanks!

Sampo KM-712 Refresh Rate?

Thanks for replying. I actually have the monitor already. I just don't want to break it by making the refresh rate too high. What would be a safe way to test it to see it I could set it on 100Mhz - what should the resolution be set at for this? (Graphics card is Asus GeForce 2 V-7700). Thanks!

Sampo KM-712 Refresh Rate?

I have a Sampo KM-712 (17") monitor. I'd like to set this to 100Mhz but can't find any speca on it to see if this is possible. How do I know what the maximum refresh rate can be and what should the resolution be for 100Mhz refresh rate? Thanks!
