In the late 90s very early 00s upgrades for computers were compelling every 18 months and there was use for the power. Since PIII hit the GHz limit the compelling nature has gone way down as a result I don't upgrade my computer often I just moved on from a Core Duo laptop this year. I buy lower...

If you don't have an SSD I think this drive is perfectly good. Most of the improvement IMHO comes from random reads 1-2 MB vs 40+ for this controller... Even if sandforce gets 80 or 160 we are talking 2 to 4 x better at most. Meanwhile you already got a 40x improvement. I think reliability is #1...

Thanks for your opinion dguy. I agree, neither is snappy :-) Though running Xubuntu on the Atom was fine when I used that (I felt). I hope someone knows where to get some quantitative numbers, since the CPUs are so far apart date wise I haven't as I said found anything.

Yeah I kind of agree with you certainly per core it is a faster computer. I think of an Atom as a P5 more or less. So two P5 at 1.6 GHz verse a P6-ish thing at 1.6 Ghz. One way the Atom might win is if the one core is able to take up the full OS and then the other just runs of one application...

Vista Activation changed motherboard

MS's own site says you will have to reactivate if you change motherboards if you have an OEM copy... They don't say you can't reactivate it if you do that. I know a lot of people don't like MS. But I don't want speculation I want hard answers from people who have done it or been rejected trying.
