Not only those, but make sure DMA is enabled. To double check. go into device manager, then go into ide/atapi controllers, go through each of hte primary and secondary channels.

Win2k/352MB RAM - Can I get rid of the paging file?

The memory subsystem of winNT/2k, is entirely different from 9x/ME. Mainly because they try to run each application in its own address space, and the more ram the bigger your page file

What brand are those network cards? Since you said you had two, i suppose that you should have different brands for each, and when i mean by different brands I mean by chipset. What chipset do you have again? 810 or 815? if 810, i'm thiking you're pretty much screwed with the video card...

Disable Virtual Memory???

Yeah. Nt/2000 have a different way of handling vm compared to win98. In 2000, it should scale more as you increase your physical memory. This is because it wants as much as possible for each program working in its own memory space

Prior to leaving school, I installed windows 2000 on a friends machine, it was a pII 350 w/ 224 MB of Ram, i would say from this point, it's all about hard drive speed. bEcause of him having a 60gXP win2k screamed like a bat outta hell

Windows 2000 and Gaming..., what gives?

system specs again ? I would say if you got an nvidia card, you're most likely in luck because of their better driver support for 2k than other companies

Removing win98 from win2k system

How do you have the dual boot set up? On two different partitions or on the same partition? If on a dual partition, I would kill the 98 partition but prior to that, back up stuff that you might have. on a single partition yeah i would just kill the windows directory.

Yet, another NTFS question

mainly it stems from dual boot implications, run NtFS on a primary active partition and win98 won't bother to install. put NTFS on a partition, 9x won't see it. But that's only in the local sense. As far a networking goes, it's all about protocols. 9x can pick up stuff from Ntx over a network

Yeah the installation portion of 2k is very very easy. it even beats out the pants outta 98 installation you just need a bootable CD. and if you're running a third party controller(by that we mean a controller that doesn't have native driver support, just hit f6 when it says so and get the...

How Should I Partition In This Situation???

To me there isn't a real reason to partition a drive these days because you sacrifice disk performance. Two seems fine ..but anymore than that, you're asking your drive to do too much ..and don't put the page file on another partition but rather another drive.

problems with ata 100 and Win2k

HOw's the feel of the real time peformance from day to day windows navigation? Is it smooth, snappy? responsive? Still responsive under a heavy load? If yes to all these questions, then I would have to say leave those results be. I wouldn't pay attention to them. If things rather snappy...

Yeah, you don't need a driver for your burner under win98 and up. The aspi drivers are already there. The thing is the drivers from the floppy disk was meant only for dos.

Well just download the amd agp registry patch and run it if you haven't done so already. Also make sure service pack 2 is installed as well as the VIA 4.31

Did you know Win2K was not optimized for Pentium & newer CPUs?

I would have to say that in order for windows to be "faster" you would almost have to go out and buy a faster hard drive as well as just a floating point competent processor. The thing is, I noticed that my old k6-2's performance under win2k / autocad was a lot better than what it was...

In win2k, what is the difference between Size and Size on disk?

I would think that size compare to size on disk means that size pertains to size of a folder or file due to file system, and size on disk means how much it's really taking on the physical hard drive

Should i go 2K or stick with ME (lots-o-questions)

I would say stick w/ ME only because i'm not too sure about a voodoo 4's performance under win2k . But other than that, consult www.ntcompatible.com for compatibility reference for your games and hardware as well as applications
