hmmm I think this can be done ................Going to have to skimp as much as possible!
CPU: Duron 1.6 ghz 38$
Memory: 128 DDR 333 33$
Mobo: Asrock k7s41gx 52$
Int sound, video, and AMR modem.
113$ close to 100$ but no cigar ..... will hang head in shame! Not a bad system at...
Dell pc's while being quiet put out the heat since their fans are low spinning RPM and have heat duct. Dell is guilty of every crummy trick in building PC's ... their own form factors, crappy PSU's, and sub standard cases. At work we have close to 50 Dell Dimensions packing 2.8 ghz p IV's and...
A 64 bit x86 version of Apple OS X would be sweet on Opteron or Athlon 64. It would be perfect for them since it could easily run popular windows apps keep the Apple look and be a ton whole lot faster. They could make them propiertery systems still around this and a gain share back. This is the...
I was the proud owner of an AMD TBird 1.33 ghz and ECS K7S5A ( Not so proud of ) for a long while. My buddy needed a computer badly so I sold him my stuff dirt cheap. I bought a Duron 650 for like 4 dollars and threw into another K7S5A replaced my DDR with PC 133. Since I dont do anywhere near...
Considering you can run a 2.25 ghz and probaly up to 2.4 ~ 2.6 ghz all day long with a 20 Db fan (which is practically noiseless). I dont see why you would downclock a cpu just to put an inferior cooling solution. Get better heatsinks / fans! BTW 42c is pretty cool if you ask me since my TBird...
8RDA all the way ! There is absolutely no reason to buy the ECS k7S5A anymore. The ECS SIS 746 board( what is it L7SA2 or somnething like that ) is reasonably priced. I'd still go with Epox.
Well considering this is from Toms I think we are going to have to suspect the entire article as usual. Lets reserve judgement until someone reviews Opteron here or elsewhere. I am sure there will be many reviews up later today. Heck I am suprised by Toms I thought they did a good job with this...
Opteron looks nice from Toms review! Dual DDR is sweet indeed and even at the nominal 1.8 ghz its able to hang in there. Optimizations could really help the Opteron fly as well since SSE2 is probaly not fully used with it and some of those benches. Opteron is probaly going to get AMD out of...
No I dont think they do for IA 32 or if they do it isnt much. As far as x86-64 Intel would have to probaly pay AMD royalities or at least buy a lsicense like transmeta.
Yeah I was dissapppointed with those benches for the most part. I was expecting a bit more but like everyone smart here is saying this a beta chip and not a full out retail Athlon 64. I question some of X bits benchmarks and whether how much reliance I can put on them. First off I'd like to say...
well I had a Radeon LE 32 meg w/tv out. Everything worked fine until cheap power supply fried my Iwill KK266 and the Radeon LE. :( I'd probaly still be running that card if that wouldnat have happened.
I really couldnt care less about onboard sound seeing how my SB live has served me well for years. Frankly I couldnt care less about what tomsphotoshopguide.com says about sound hurting games. I mean we are talking a frames here and it wouldnt be noticeable to the naked eye. It would be nice to...
well only PC 66 and 66 FSB so low grade Pentium 2's and Celerons. I have a 440 LX board and its still working with a 400mhz Celly. I dont know if you can buy a converter to go to higher than 533 celly or not. There were 66 fsb cellies up to 800 I believe but dont expect anything to work above...
make sure that your boot sequence is on C if that is ur HD letter or press F8(whatever boot manger is ) to bring up the boot manager. Select hard drive. If all else fails format and pray!
8RDA.com will show Vdd tricks as well as other mods. A very good guide to doing it as well. I mean come on an extra 52 dollars for sub par onboard video, firewire bracket, and better sound! For 52 dollars you can buy Athlon XP 1700+ Tbred B and hit over 2ghz with this board.
8RGA is a better OC er out of the box besides the dual onboard video. It includes Vdd options as well I believe higher Vcore and Vdimm. There are mods you can do to the Epox 8RDA that will accomplish this. I wouldnt go for the 8RGA simply because you can get the 8RDA for 88 dollars but the 8RGA...
You simply cant beat this combo! Nothing is better for the price!
Epox 8RDA
AMD AthlonXP (Barton) 2500+
Should come out to be 260 or so
Cheaper
Epox 8RDA
AMD AthlonXP (TBred B) 2100+
186 @ newegg
Even cheaper
Epox 8RDA
AMD AthlonXP (TBred B) 1700+
136 @ newegg
TBred 2100+ or...
ok I got that, but where can I get a hercules bios for that? I dont see it anywhere on the website! There is one for the rertail version but I know that doesnt work.
OKay so my Radeon 8500 was not performing up to snuff. I tried to upgrade the BIOS up to retail levels but that didnt even flash. Hercules didnt have any falshes for the LE cards so I opted for the 7005 version of ATI's 8500 bios. Well the flash went well but when I restarted the card didnt want...
lets not forget the Opteron is over 900 pins! Hmm I am confused about that picture seeing the deasktop Athlon 64 looked vastly different. Infact the low volatage athlons look more like that.
Geez I formatted a Mandrake 9.0 install with my WinXP disc. Oddly enough I couldnt format the drive with a mandrake 8.2 disc or read the HD at all with the 8.2 disc.
Twinmos sounds great and all but I can find windbond memory for much less $$$! So should I just go and get that instead of the Twinmos? I know I am sounding like a newbie but I get really ancy when I go through comp upgrades.
