I know this sounds like a very "broad" reply but without going through each and every component and having another system to test it, I'd make the assumption on what you have said that the motherboard is badly in need of being exchanged.
Might look around for charity organizations that specialize in taking old computers and you'll end up with a tax deduction worth more than what you could most likely get from selling it on the Net or otherwise.
I think as most computer enthusiasts who don't have a ton of money to throw around that there must be a way to assess the near future of motherboards and chipsets, graphics cards, and growing trends.
