Sold the 4S for a GS3 today - nice to be back to Android.

Have had my S3 for less than a day. Love it, I was coming from a Moto Droid, the first one. So it feels stupid fast. I played with the iP5 but it was just too small. Same size as the Droid almost. The S3 is a pocket tablet!

THQ wants to have their cake and eat it too

Mafia 2 is one game I'm glad I didn't pay full price for DLC (or full game for that matter). Decent full game, short but good. Sad dlc however. Jimmy's Vendetta was basically a lame GTA style sub game. The other DLC was just clothes and cars. I regretted buying that stuff for even less than a...

i5 750 OC temps on a TT Silent 1156

Ok, thanks for the clarification. Yeah, I tried dropping the voltages but at much above 3.5ghz my cooler is just not up to task. Even at 1.26 vcore running at 3.8 I'm still getting in the high 80s. I'm just going to have to save the high overclocks for when i get a new cooler. 3.5 will suffice...

Yeah, I've always been a big fan despite the obvious shortcomings of the games. So I really would like to play through the game. It isn't a hang like the computer is bogging down it just stops for no apparent reason then keeps going like normal. Funny thing too is my video card fan (i think)...

What are "playable" FPS?

I have a 6850 and it's true, you won't be able to max out everything and expect 100% smooth gameplay. Maybe 90% but it will stutter a bit. I turn off post processing and motion blur a lot because it bugs me and it's not the way I see the world in real life, my vision isn't that bad. Bumps up...

Yeah, same thing for me, Fry's is 45min away. Next closest is BB, eww. But you do get an excuse to go tech shopping and maybe spend even more money!

The 4870 is still fine, as good as newer mid range cards anyway. Personally, I'd buy another 4870 and CF (if you have two pcie) until I had enough saved up to buy it all in one go. That would keep you gaming for a while. You might need more wattage for your psu but that would just fit in to your...

Looks like I'll be using the AC MX-4 since I can get it amazon and have it shipped in 2 days for free. I don't feel like waiting to see if the cure time for as5 or matrix will make a difference.

Ran a quick single pass on standard with intel burn test vcore was 1.31 idle and 1.33 load. Using speed fan to monitor voltage. Temps were roughly same. As far as airflow goes I have 4x 120mm case fans and one 200mm on top. I was looking at the 212 since it seems to be the most popular cooler...

Abit went the way of the dinosaur some time ago. So needless to say RMA isn't an option. I guess just check return policies for hardware when you buy. Never returned computer hardware so I don't know.

Sorry, misread, was thinking you were talking about the light on the computer itself. If Meghan is right about memory I would think you would get a memory error during post, not the monitor problem. I would concur with your initial diagnosis. But unfortunately you just can't know for sure...

Looking for a new video card

I have been looking at a 6850 since my daughter dumped coffee on my 5770 through the fan. Seems to be the best for the money at the moment. Looks like an HIS can be had for $145 right now.

Official AMD Radeon 6790 Review Thread

I think it's more of a spot to get rid of those '3rd tier' chips. Not to mention the higher number alone will sell. For example, Joe at Fry's has $150 to spend on a new video card. Given no other information, he'll go with the 6790 over a 5830 or 5770 simply because of the number. Not everyone...

Things that you DON'T miss from "the good ol' days".

External parallel port 100mb zip drive. One of the only options for anything bigger than 1.44mb I had at the time. Slow and expensive.

Are motherboards almost irrelevant nowadays?

I would say you are also paying for the name and level of QC for any given brand. Asus, gigabyte have been around and have established their reputations and can charge more because of it. Same as any other product.

Need help picking a graphics card

He also said he wanted to play Empire Total War. A 5770 will give good performance and has low power draw compared to most other cards in that class. A 5750 would probably have lower draw but isn't really any cheaper than a 5770. A 512mb 5770 is available on newegg for $120 after mir right now...
