Looking for an affordable 17" LCD

I'm looking for a 17" LCD in the $300 - $400 range. For desktop use only, so the refresh rate is NOT important. I've never heard of a lot of the brands on Newegg, and most of them have very few reviews. Does anyone have some suggestions?

Miserable luck with Catalyst 3.7...dare I try 3.8?

Ok, I installed them and they seem to work great! My guess is that the Epox motherboard was the problem, so I'm glad that ended up dying on me.

HELP! Computer nonfunctional after being shipped

Thanks for the advice. I think it's a given that my motherboard and CPU are goners, so could someone suggest replacements for these? I haven't followed hardware in a long time. I guess I'm open to both AMD and Intel processors--whatever will give a good price/performance ratio.

HELP! Computer nonfunctional after being shipped

I had my desktop shipped from California to college in Massachusetts. When I opened it up, the heat sink was detached, so it must've been bouncing around inside the case for who knows how long. I reattached it, but when I turn it on, there's no input to the monitor and I don't hear any beeps...

Question about the 9600 Pro

What if I don't want an extended desktop? I want it to display the same thing on both screens. Will it do that?

Upgrading from an Athlon 1.4

On a hot day, sometimes I hear a fan changing pitch as my computer slows down (the ventilation behind my desk could be a little better). Pointing a fan at it usually fixes it, so I guess it's a heat problem. I'm using a Taisol 760 with Arctic Silver II.

Question about the 9600 Pro

Just out of curiosity, will this card support dual monitors? I mean, if I hook up a monitor to the VGA port and an LCD screen to the DVI, will it send the same output to both screens or just one at a time?

Upgrading from an Athlon 1.4

Right now, I have a T-bird 1.4 on an Epox 8K7A motherboard. I've had overheating problems in hot weather--will an XP 2400 be any cooler? Does it work fine in my old Socket A motherboard? Also, if I buy it retail, does the heatsink clip use all 3 prongs on each side of the CPU socket? I don't...

CD Burner not running at 52x?

Yup. I have one too. I'll bet it's because you have some older CD-Rs. Buy some that are rated to a higher speed and see if that makes a difference.

Bad chipset fan, do I need it?

The 40mm fan on my Epox 8K7A has gone bad. It works, but it makes a really obnoxious noise. Can I just remove it? If it's necessary, can anyone recommend a good replacement to order online?

Latest Radeon drivers refuse to install

I have a Radeon 7200 LE. When I try to install the 9039 drivers, it gives me the error message: INF error Video driver not found Is there a way to fix this? I recall having a similar problem with the 9009s...something to do with a screwed up .inf file. I tried copying and pasting the [mfg]...

Epox 8K7A and VIA drivers

I downloaded and installed the 4.37 VIA 4-in-1s. Now I get stuttering in certain games, especially in Medal of Honor and MS Flight Sim 2002. I uninstalled the drivers, but the stuttering remains. Is there any solution short of a reformat? Athlon T-Bird 1.4 Epox 8K7A 256 MB Crucial DDR 60 GB IBM...

My rig lags in games :(

One thing you might want to try is turning off the sound in the game. Sometimes certain sound cards do weird things.

I just got a working set from Provantage.com. WOW, these speakers sound good! :) Bongolo, I get the same sound.

I haven't gotten a replacement set from Newegg yet, but we'll see if it works properly or not. LoqT, what sound card were you using? Was the left/right balance correct using headphones plugged into the control unit?

Max Payne demo, 3DMark 2001 freezing w/Radeon LE

Max Payne looks and runs great on my computer, but it freezes after a certain amount of time in the game. 3DMark 2001 also freezes after a while whenever I run a high-detail demo (the low-detail ones work fine). All other 3D games work fine...IIRC, I'm not the only one who has had problems with...

Radeon LE, how hot is too hot?

The Anadtech article about the Radeon LE says that you don't need any additional cooling even if you've got it up to 183 MHz.
