Kyro II - looking to the future...

I've used them both, herc MX and the Herc 4500. Theres no doubt that the kyro II beats the MX in every test I ran. A really nice card for the money.

Finally got my computer and monitor painted. Let me know what you think.

Yeas but with enougth memory and burn proof, scsi is just not needed. Your paying alot more just so you can multitask, in a sense :) You can do that anyway with the newer IDE burners. If you've got the dolla, get the scsi and brag, but any plextor will do ;)

2.15v is fine ;) Thats what my Duron 650 runs at to get its sweet 1.15Ghz :)

Yeah, but remember, no IP, no sharing with friends... if your on a LAN, I take it you are. ....disable IP for a big boost.

I just found out the MAX hz on my monitor is 75, is that bad?

Good good :) Seriously, some of the crap Dell kit we got at work runs at 60hz, I can't use it, fries my eyes.

75 is normal for a 'older' monitor. Most monitors produced in recent years will be around 85Hz at spec resolution. I personaly love my 145hz, maybe over the top, but what the hell :P

gunf1ghter: I wasn't getting nasty, just your use of caps and telling me that what I can and can't do. I've tested it, infront of me, with my own eyes and have seen for myself :) Can you honestly say you have too? Nothing hostile.

Both CPU's at a push 'should' be able to hit 1.6GHz. Both my AXIA 1GHz chips hit 1.6GHz on a VIA KT133A chipset. I'm not saying every chip is the same, some have lower thresholds.

You might not, but the quake engine does. You can actually do more jumps and hence, move faster and further. Why should you beleave me, because I'm a division 1 UK 'proffessional' player and have read alot about the 125 'magic number'. And its 60% because its SDR and I have it on FULL details...

<< I don't understand, why not run 32bit? I mean you're getting well over 100fps... >> Well, my MX sweats like a pig when you throw 32bit at it :) I lose around 60% FPS. Also quake3 runs optimal @ 125FPS, so I cap it n e way.

<< The Palomino is not 15-20% faster in ANY applications. AMD's own benchies show that it is between 3-8% faster in applications. The amount of mis-information and FUD on this forum is amazing. >> I'll say again. ME, MYSELF and I achieve around 20% faster results at BEST, NOT everytime. Jeeez.

<< Did I mention I have an Alpha PEP66 with Delta 38cfm fan that's gonna cool either one of these chips? Id like to run it with a crappier, but quieter fan but if the speed exchange is high enough ill use the delta. >> The Alpha should be fine, the MP runs alot cooler :)

There are certain benchmarks that'll give you a score of 20% higher no problem, then are some that will show a negligable or couple of percent increase. Trust me though, its more then 5% on average.

Platform doesnt really matter. Im talking of floating point and calculations. So in real world, even though its about 20% 'quicker' you get around 15% or so. I've tested one on a KT133A and DDR and I was impressed, very impressed. It appears also that AMD are playing down the performance...

Well the MP is 15-20% faster clock for clock. On the side of overclocking, the MP will probably goto 1.4/1.45GHz happily, whereas the TBird should be capable of 1.65GHz tops. Air cooling.

Will this CPU work?

The chip will happily run @ 100mhz, but, not sure about the board. It would most probably run it at full multiplier.

Do I need to buy thermal pads/paste?

I would. But then, I like to overclock :) TBH: the stock cooler should be fine for normal use, thermal pasted will help, don't bother with pads they are useless, better without.
