I just got a Garmin nuvi 350 as a gift (never had a gps before) - but noticed that this model is discontinued.
Was wondering if that means no future map updates? It seems to have a lot of good features for $150, but wondering how important update maps and firmware are for a tech like this...
Does anyone know how well online bifocals work out.
I ask durning an eye exam about ordering online, they said ordering single lens would be fine but bi or tri would be risky because the shape of the frame would impact where the like would go and unless you measure with the exact frame I...
Wondering if anyone knows what is going on, when charging a 1.5 year old IPOD, it got so hot that part of the front started to melt (plastic started to get wavie). Now it doesn't work at all.
Is this a common battery problem, like the batteries in laptops?
Can this thing be fixed or any...
thanks for the info, seems this is going to be more complicated then I would like. You've used the term "fakeraid", not sure if I understand what your saying - this Dell XPS uses the Intel raid chipset and drivers. I believe this is a real implementation.
anyway, went to Dell tech support...
Actually I was wondering if I could simply remove the 2nd 160gb drive from the raid configuration, leaving the first 160mb drive alone.
Would this give me the 2nd 160gb avaible for use (as a drive D:) ?
Also wondering if I'd run into issues with the first drive still being configured as a...
I just got a new Dell desktop, with two 160gb drives configured as raid mirroring (XP not Vista).
Although I understand the value of mirroring, this is a system for my kid where amount of space is more important then saving critical data. He rather have 320gb of storage.
All I have on...
At Costco this weekend they have one of these on special for $300! Of course it is from the orginator of this type of ladder with extras like wheels, leg levelers and step platform extenders.
I wonder if this $59 version can be set up as a right triange (one lag that stands perpendicular to...
Hopefully this isn't to far off topic, but has anyone had experince with the Dell "dent & scratched" systems. The Dell footnote was significant cosmetic damage, but fully functional in as new working condition.
So does that me crush side panels, broken bezels, spray painted chassie...
yup, got some good idea's to look into - thanks.
"low price" is relative to ones pocket book, but I knew that posing the question that I'd get a good ball park on what to expect (and how much to save for :-)
thanks

I was wondering between the two which one would be best to use primarily as a permenate protection filter
1. HOYA 55mm Clear PRO1 DIGITAL Protector Filter DMC LPF * NEW
2. NEW HOYA PRO1 D Digital 55 55mm UV(0) Filter DMC THIN
The 2nd one filters UV - although the description...
Good sites - the clear glass filters are cheap, no need to mess with adapters (shipping is cost the same as the filter!).
But the adapters definately the way to reuse some of my existing filters, especially the macro and polerizing ones that are $50 or more.
thanks
dave
thanks, good advice! I didn't know the step down ring strategy, sounds good - only thing is that it's ikely some time away before getting another lens (haven't even figured out how to fully use this baby with the stock lens).
So if I got a 77mm and a step down to fit my stock lens, that...
I'm looking for a protector filter for my new Sony A100K and was wondering if quality makes a difference in a simple glass protector filter? Looks like range is between $50 - $200, seems like a big range just for plan glass.
also same question for a Polariser filter - I'm guessing on this...
sorry for the newbie question - which one is faster and runs cooler.
I guess my real question is what is the diff - is a 2 duo, a dual core??
point to a url that explains it greatly appreciated if it takes more then 3 sentences to explain.
thanks much
dave
nothing in the under $500 catigory - they must be scarfed up fast.
Wondering a referb is better then scratch&dented?
Actually found the sub $500 systems
I'm in the market for a mid performance system for my son, homework system (yea right) and of course some gaming. But I'm not shelling out big bucks for games so mediem gaming performance is suffient.
Think this system is good enough, or should I keep looking - if so, any suggestions.
thanks
Thxs, I ordered the Adata 2gb 266x from frys - looking forward to trying my (wife's) new camera!
Any suggestions on a second battery? are there decent 3rd party batteries for the A100 out there?
Davep
Just purchased my first DLSR, selected the A100, that was hard decision!!
Anyway, need to get some memory - just to get started.
Was wondering if the type of memory matters (type I or II, Sony vs no name brand). Any thoughts?
do some perform better then others? will the cheapo work...
thanks fuzzybabybunny,
So it seems that the quality of the adapter (glass used in it) DOES make a difference. So the following claim by an expensive ($125) adapter reseller maybe valid?:
"Most of the Minolta MD AF adapters on the market are about 1:2 adapters but my adapter is 1:1.
This...
Concern about the adapters that I've located
I found the Haoda Fu site and the $124 adapter (on sale), but I've also found general MD/MC adaptors for a 1/3 the cost. Not sure which way to go.
But, looking at my old lens, there is a "stem"? sticking out of the mount lip - which I don't see...
Hey amigaMan & AndrewR,
Awesome sites - just what I needed.
I continue to be stunned by the knowledge and power of the internet - less then a week ago I know about zero on DSLRs, know able to make an extremely informed decision, including factoring in reuse of old lens by locating obscure...
Hey folks - more confusion created by talking to store sales people. I called two Penn photo stores and asked about old lens compatibility - got a different story then advice on this board.
Ask about compatibility of my old lens (Minolta and Mayma), and both flat out said there is no chance...
Well, I'm to the point of actually touching real product and liked the feel of the nikons which seemed less bulky & lighter then the SonY A100. Was also disipointed that none of my old Minolta and Mayma lens would work on the sony). He said they were to old (to bad they are in great...
thanks everyone for the great responses - looks like my upper limit will need to get bumped a $100-200 (I wonder how come that always seems to happen :-) )
Have to dig out those lens and go over to Ritz (to see what fits what)
Since I havent purchase a camera in 20 years, I'm behind the curve here - so can only go on what read but here are the links for pricing that I've found. Please tell me if the D80 package is a great deal or am I'm missing something
D80 w/ Nikon 18-55 lensfor $479...
In looking at pricing there is only a $50 diff between the D40x and the D80 - so which one is the better bang for the buck - assuming this is for someone who wants to start photography as a hobby (want both auto and ful manual control).
thanks
dp
well the intent of this question may not fit w/ this thread, but since I'm in the market for a ~$500 DSLR who cares about sales market share, what is the best bang for for the $ (for a hobbiest - who wants some growth room)?
thanks

Nice, it would be nicer if it was free, like Etrade. I wish my bank would use a RSA generator also (can't believe banks aren't using it) but I've heard that bank systems being hacked is more of a problem then indivial acct passwords being stolen.
I purchased this quite a few months ago with mixed result. Defiantly a good price but it seem to work intermittently , although my system would show it as a device, some times it would print some time not. Not sure what the problem is - I'd think that it would either work or not (but...
