I managed to get the abit board for £42, remember this is for my server so no gfx required.
The system seems to run nice upto now not tried overclocking yet though.
Via = no no
Is it just me too or do SiS chipset based systems boot into Winxp faster than anything else? :)
THe only reason I'm buying it is that the board and chip are cheap (Abit SG72 + 2.4 Celery), gonna try a little overclocking, this is for my server not my main machine :)
Thanks for the above comments :)
Ive played with many a system with a 686a/b southbridge.
No matter what soundcard it was, if I put it into the slot that shares the IRQ with the AGP slot I never had any bother.
Tested:
Audigy
SB Live
SB Live 5.1
Cmedia 8738 cards
Abit KT7 Raid
Abit KT7a Raid
Asus A7v
I was thinking of getting an Abit SG72 board and a celery for my server and just wondered if anyone had any experience of boards based on this chipset...
TIA :)
I used to have one of these boards and it ran high 40c's idle and upto 60c under load.
As long as your system doesn't crash while heavy gaming or running prime95 for a couple of hours (ideally the gaming as the heat from your gfx will build up also), dont worry....
My cpu was a 2.4b...
hmm try this...
Go into control panel -> display -> screensaver -> click power button if theres an apm tab at the top goto it and turn on apm.
Your windows xp should shut down fine :)

Re: ukDave
I had clicking on my 75gxp 30GB like you've had for over a year then the drive died. Check its not made in Hungary, these drives seem to have the most problems. (I sent a 20GB 7200rpm IBM and 30GB IBM 75GXP back last week RMA).
I now have 2 x 41GB 60GXP's in RAID 0 and no probs so...
Buy a Chaintech Raid PCI Raid Card. Uses a Highpoint 370 Chipset (Same as your MB) and you'll be able to swap your RAID array without reinstalling anything. Plus It's cheap!!
AFAIK Highpoint Chipped RAID's only have problems when you share IRQ's with them (Win 2K is tested and proved okay...
I've had a similar problem with my setup which drove me insane.
I have a Chaintech IDE Raid PCI card with the highpiont 370A onboard. I flashed the new bios and installed the new drivers and had similar problems. Although I don't use a soundblaster card in this particular system.
The problems...
Hello, just a quicky from experience.
The Epson 880 does not have a chip on the cartridges, its inbuilt memory (NVRAM) stores how many times the heads have been cleaned/pages printed etc so that the printer can "judge" how much ink is left. I've often taken out a cartridge when the...
