I found an asus am2+am3 board for $35 yesterday on craigslist, and the guy was so anxious to sell it he threw in 2x2 gb of ddr2. Be sure you get the backplate if you buy used.

I switched the agility 3 to my biostar a880g+ board and it runs fine in achi mode, but takes longer to boot. Windows experience hardrive score is 7.6 in sata II mode.

Should I replace my mobo?

IF you check the stats, your framerates may only rise 5-7% with most overclocks. I have to lower my ram speed first to get a stable overclock. I wouldn't change boards or cpus just for this.

Check around the backplate area. Sometimes a metal tang will touch somewhere it's not supposed to. I had to bend mine twice to get my board and plate square and flush.

Now that Intel is increasing their stock clock speeds, is overclocking as relevant?

I enjoyed having my i3 running overclocked, but after losing 2 ssd's, I can live without it. Don't know why my patriot ssd dies when overclocked, but I it's more trouble than it's worth. My ssd is stable now.

I hope frys still has that deal. Holiday weekends can change the usual expiration date of their weekly ads. The msi board should work fine. Fry's also had a similar deal for an msi h55 board. I use the onboard video with my h55 board, or you can use a separate card.

I recommend you use "ide" mode, not achi. I saw no difference in performance. With achi mode, my ssd failed twice. Unless you plan to swap out hardrives, I don't see enough of an advantage. Windows 7 should locate and format the drive without any difficulty. Can't guarantee windows xp will...

Biostar G31-M7 TE Ver.6.3

For anyone who needs it, I got an rma back from biostar for the g41 board. It only took about 10 days from the time I shipped it to getting a new board back. Great service. Faster than msi or abit (years ago).

Turned off system restore and deleted previous restore points. Gained about 4 gb of space. Using a patriot ps-100 ssd, which is low end, but it works. Thanks again.

Thanks for the advice. I will do more research and learn how to disable some items. Already used the regedit commands and checked the bios for achi but it's not listed in my biostar g41 board. Still figuring out how to turn off system restore.

I have another 160gb sata drive, but disconnected it to save energy. I use ultima 32 bit windows 7. Also using 4 gb of pc6400 with an e3300 celeron dual core. I'm not a gamer. I also don't need pagefile.

I would like to know what portions of windows 7 I can disable to conserve space on my 32 gb ssd. The available space is growing smaller each day, even when not installing anything and using ie privacy keeper and the windows disk cleanup program. I don't use many of the new features anyway...

DDR3 question Please HELP!

Most x58 boards have 3 or 6 dimm slots for tripple channel ram. 3x2gb is plenty. The dual channel stuff is for amd or 1156 p55 boards.

You might also look for some reviews for the asus p5n-d sli board (only $84.99 after rebate with $2.99 shipping at newegg. That board should overclock your current cpu better than any g31. Frys as has some great combos again this week, if you live near one.
