Thanks for the suggestions so far. I will probably be in the Atlanta area within the next few weeks which can give me microcenter access. Also, OS isn't an issue (forgot to mention that). I already have Vista Ultimate 64 that was given to me as a gift. :)
1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Primarily video editing, not professional mind you, but some HD and some normal video editing. Would like to play StarCraft 2 when its released and perhaps some source games like L4D.
2. What YOUR budget...
The problem I see with this logic though is DirecTV is no longer working with Tivo and going their own route with future dvr's. So it would be questionable about future Tivo support if the hardware is even capable... Just some more food for thought
Deep Discount DVD has it in stock instead of pre-order and with free shipping for $5.99 here. You could also get Rambo First Blood Part 2 for $5.99 or First Blood for $13.28. Or to recall a repost the Rambo Trilogy is $21.27.
While the progressive output is nice, it still cant match the 0 loss of a DirecTivo, atleast in my experience. There will always be degraded picture in a unit that has to convert it from its original format for storage, and while progressive scan can improve it, it cant correct it.
<< Now, does anyone know a place that sells these units at these prices but with no commitment? In other words, a "Cash and Carry" type deal with no CC req'd?? BB and Circuit City req CC and contracts. At these prices, they're very tempting. >>
WalMart locally did but no longer have any in...
I know this wasnt pointed at me, but I am going to stick my nose into it anyways ;)
<< Since you seem to be pretty knowledgeable on this subject...which would remote would you go with? The TS-1000 for $155ish or the TSU-2000 for $188ish? >>
To me the only real differance that matters...
<< who has actually ever USED the region-free features? >>
I have the Pioneer 535 that is region free and I do use the feature. There are some discs that are released a good bit before the US version, others that have more features and even some with better transfers than their US...
