well, no. if any single drive fails, the raid 1 array will continue to function. yes, i lose my raid 0, but not my raid 1. i then by a new drive. reimage the raid 0 array and i'm back in business.

fwiw, the extra notch in the pci card means that it supports 3.3v signalling as well. in order for a pci slot to support 66mhz, it must use 3.3v signalling. most pci slots nowdays use 5v signalling. if you look at a regular pci slot, it doesn't have the extra notch at pins 12,13 and 3.3v only...

as was noted, it's probably more important to use scsi. the reality is that ide is nowhere near as robust and will get bogged down much faster in an environment dominated by multiple i/o requests. plus, you can hot swap and get very close to 24/7, allowing you to decrease your backup intervals...

i agree. the u2w controller is still a good one and a fast 10k or 15k scsi will outperform an ide raid setup except maybe peak transfer rates. overall your system will be faster. boy, if you're used to a 4.5gb scsi will you be impressed with a 10k cheetah or quantum atlas III.
