Question Network keeps dropping on 12 year old build. GA-970A-D3 Gigabyte. What to do.

Consumer routers are not made to go the distance anymore. They generate heat more than those from the past (I have a linksys Wrt54g still working). If you go with a ‘business class’ router, you’ll get longer life, but it also depends on the design. I personally like the Protectli devices and...

    Question Application Control Router

I was wondering if someone had any knowledge regarding application control using your router. Here is the scenario: I have two WAN connections. I’d like to have certain applications go out through one WAN, and other applications go out through the other WAN. Is this even possible? thank you!

Meraki MX64 or Sophos UTM9 or Pfsense

Ended up nixing sophos as i had 'weirdness' occur several times, and I couldn't find a resolution. I tried pfsense for a while as well. Liked it too, but ultimately went back to the Meraki because it has the 3 year license (why not use it). Ideally, i'd like to see if it can do ad-blocking...

    Question Sophos XG or pfSense/OPNsense

I appreciate the input, abufrejoval. I assembled the machine and installed pFSense on it with Suricata, and PFNG Firewall. From the wall, the machine draws 36watts on average with an occasional spike to 40w. I have experience with pFSense and i do like it, but want to try Sophos XG as well to...

hey fellow networking people! I have a question. I currently use a Meraki MX64 as my router at home (got it free with taking a webinar), but it’s coming up for renewal and I am not sure if I should do it or not. The service I have now is 200/10 from Spectrum and I am not planning on going...

What consumer aimed router has the best parental controls?

I know it's not a 'consumer level' router, but to get the features I wanted, I use a Meraki MX64 router with an MR33 WAP. I created separate SSIDs for the parents and the kids. The kids' SSID has layer 3 & 7 filtering on it, time restrictions and bandwidth control. The parent's SSID is wide...

If you were in the market for a new Home Router today, what would you buy?

I have a Meraki MX64 I got for free for attending a webinar. Came with a 3 year license. Although the license renewal is outrageously priced - the device, functionality, and configurability is every cool. I was using pFsense prior to this and it was rock solid.

    Router Recommendations? Or Google Wifi/Mesh?

Was in same situation as you. Decided to build my own router out of an old PC (running pfSense), bought a 24 port switch, and I bought an AC1200 router and put it in WAP mode instead. You can always buy more AC1200 routers and run them in WAP mode if coverage stinks.

Its possible to disable annoying post message on Intel NIC?

Either use the software I linked you to to disable it in windows or see if there is a keystroke combo that allows you to enter the BIOS menu on that card to disable to boot manager.
