The truth behind rebates?

Never happen. The government makes money off this system, too (referring to the taxes you pay on an item, but never receive back after a rebate), and they're not about to cut off a source of free revenue.

Cold! Newegg now charging shipping for most refurbs.

According to Newegg, no. They send all product received from RMAs directly back to the manufacturers, who then either test and return the product or send a replacement to Newegg. Some of the manufacturers clearly don't even bother to test, and some clearly send new product for the replacement...

Mine arrived on Tuesday. Turns out they're not quite small enough to fit under the ZM-80c, so I removed them. They're pretty small, though, 5/16" height x 1/2" width/length, so they're probably small enough for use under other heatsinks.

Belkin 32mb usb drive for $4. NEC 1300A for $49

No Belkins at the OM in Richmond, VA, but they did have Micro Advantage 32MB flash drives for $10 ($19.99 w/$10 IR). I passed. At $4, it would've been worth it to pick up 4 or 5 as toys/boot drives, but at $10, I'll just stick with floppies and CDs.
