I run my OS and all apps from SSD RAID 0. Very responsive..
I have a spare SSD that I can clone my RAID to in about 6 minutes.. I do it almost daily, and always after a significant change, like installing an application.
The clone would allow me to recover in the time it takes me to reboot...
I'm very happy with my X99 Extreme4.. 5960X stable at 4.5g with DDR4 2666 RAM.
I really like the BIOS interface, particularly the fan control.
Gigabyte has a pretty good reputation but it appears to have a few more unhappy users over at Newegg; although I wouldn't consider those reviews...
That sounds very complex..
With my Asrock X99 Extreme 4 all I had to do was:
Set the SATA controller mode to RAID
Reboot and press Ctrl+I to invoke the RAID BIOS
Configure the RAID ( Assign drives, etc.. )
Reboot with the Windows Install disk, and have the Intel SATA drivers available...
Let me double check what I was looking at..
What I thought I saw, was that the black pads did not have associated pins/contacts in the socket... I'll double check and get back to you..

Did you say you have the color coded diagram That shows the blacked out pins, with pin A1 in the upper right corner?
The blacked out pins are not pins, they are the blanked out notches in the socket. You should be able to align the notches ( key ) that have a unique pattern, so that pin A1 can...
Actually, once the box is opened. photos of something that was not visible from the outside of the sealed box, is not proof of anything..
Just talking about " proof " , not the validity of the situation as described.
I don't think Intel has a reputation for not treating warranty claims...
Not being on the supported memory list, means it has not been tested by MSI..
It is rare that any generic memory will not work on any generic board ..
That memory looks to have very good reviews across a lot of sellers, so there is a very good chance it will work for you..

I have had it fail when I said " one " ..
I assume it took " one " to mean another system besides the one I was trying to activate...

This was kicked around a lot back when SSD caching was first available..
Because of the overhead, there are diminishing returns as the cache gets larger, and Intel claimed that 64GB was the sweet spot, and thus the limit..
The caching doesn't look at what you do the most, it looks at what...
What is the warranty on the Supermicro boards?
Do they have the BIOS tweaks most enthusiasts are looking for?
If you are not going to overclock, just about any mainstream board should be as reliable at a fraction of the cost.

I have the Z77 Extreme4 with a 2700K with a mild OC of 4g.. It been running essentially 24/7 trouble free for over a year.. It is my wife's PC - mostly surfing - but I keep Folding at home running on the GPU ..
My experience with several Asrock boards has ben pretty much trouble free...

Bad news - I tried bumping volts to 1.3 and speed to 2800, and could not post ..
Good news - Went wandering around in the DRAM settings, and although it looked like the XMP value of 2666 was in place, another setting said the DRAM was at 2133. I manually changed...
Any references to what I might realistically gain by tweaking the RAM?
I've been overclocking CPU's since the Celeron days: messed around with memeory tweaking once BIOS's started offering it, but found it had very diminishing returns outside of bragging rights..
But of course, bragging...

Using GeIL 16GB 2666, which the board set automatically at rated specs and booted with no issues from day one..
I started using Asrock boards when the 3930K came out and have had virtually no problems...
