Thanks very much for the quick response xtknight. I appreciate your insight. So when you talk about a "calibration utility", are you talking about purely software, or a hardware device as well? Do you have any specific recommendations? As for your specific recommendation, can you describe why...

OK, I'm working on a nice high-end system build and need a 30" monitor to finish it off. Price is not a concern. I looked through this lengthy thread and the original recommendations in the first post, but really wasn't clear on the relative merits of the few options in this stratospheric arena...

Help assigning modem to IRQ's 5-8: NT, 98, 95.

Yeah, I have checked BIOS settings. It actually doesn't specify COM port #, only physical COM port and resource mappings. In other words, I can set up "communications port 1" in the BIOS to Input/Output range 03E8-03EF and IRQ 4, but it could still map to COM3 in Windows. Same as it should...

Right, IRQ's are not really my issue though. I'm trying to map an external or internal modem to COM ports other than 1-4, specifically 5-8. Generally the IRQ mappings for COM ports are within a standard range for even and odd ports, and for instance the same address can be used for COM2 as COM4...

Not sure this is the right forum for this, but it's more or less on topic, so here goes. I need to setup a modem on COM ports 5-8 in Windows NT 4, Windows 98, and Windows 95 for testing purposes (Win2000 was easy, that's already done with). The modem I currently have is external, so I presume...
