Thoughts on ATI/NVidia, 5850/5870....

If there were games that would properly utilize all the power of this card, it might be worth 600$. As it is everything is multi-platform, and works fine on older cards. That combined with vista's low penetration, leaving everyone targeting primarily directX 9, and it's a great card without any...

HDMI or DVI?

Bandwidth would be a function of cable build quality/material/shielding regardless of whether it is a dvi or hdmi cable. I liked the explanation here. If I were in your situation I would probably go with hdmi to get around any possibly hassle with HDCP.

As far as I know the video signal is identical. Hdmi is a smaller form factor, and includes sound.

Building a WoW PC..

[/i] All you have to do is zoom out a little bit and it's the same difference, third person perspective is handy that way. I am running the 2405FPW in WoW with a 7800gt and I am satisfied. WoW is not the most graphically demanding game though.

Video problem with Windows media player

You could try media player classic. Is this all videos? Or just a specific type? Could be a bad codec. But you are right, video card drivers are often an issue.

Ruby on rails is the new hotness. I reccomend it if you don't already know one of the other languages. If you must use java you can use spring and hibernate for database stuff. ASP.NET is easy if you want to go the microsoft route.

What should I purchase for my new system?

Option one is the only one I would go for if I had your system. Install the operating system and your programs on the Raptor, and use the maxtor for movies and stuff like that. A second or bigger monitor might be nice if you really feel like spending money. Klipsch speakers are another option.

Church traffic workers can't block traffic on a public road, it's illegal. The cop is there to make everything work better for people on the road and coming on to it. It's a valid public service.
