Raid spanning : Just makes the computer think alll your hard drives are one big drive, no performance gains
Raid Striping(0): Takes at least 2 drives, and writes "stripes" of data to each drive simultaneously, increasing speed.
Raid Mirroring(1): Takes at least 2 drives, and writes...

What does this mean? It pops up in the boot on all my new comptuers with Ultra ATA 100 hard drives? what does it mean?

Also, four of these hard drives will be packed in right next to each other, is heat ever a problem for hard drives? I mean, will I damage them with heat?
2 of them will be spaced out in the 5 1/4 slots, but...
8 is all i really need.... I have two controllers on the motherboard, and two on the card, so that makes 4 controllers x 2 = 8..... I also might get a raid board, so that would be more like 6 controllers x 2 = 12... but i dont know if I can split power twice off of a power supply.... and...
