Windows network, 2 domains, can't see second domain

Check to see if wins is running on either/both servers. If they are 2000 servers dns must be running or they are not functional AD servers. The guy who set this mess up didn't know squat. If not already setup create a trust between the 2 domains so user administration is easier. Another thing...

Large/medium networks - Switching utilization

Please post some numbers on the overall utilization of the switch and utilization of your gigabit ports. Reasoning is many 200-500 user networks who hve made significant upgrades in the last 1-2 years are running maybe 10% on gigabit ports and 1-5% of a chassis style switch like 4000/6000...

Tracking down a bandwidth hog on a PIX

Cheap and easy way is to throw kiwi syslog server and reportgen (syslog analyzer) on a microsoft box and run a bytes inbound and out bound report.

2611 + 2950 + .1q = VLAN separation?

What version of ios will allow dot1q trunks on a 10 meg interface? I just loaded 12.2.13T (ip only) which doesn't allow dot1q trunks on e0/0.1 subinterface.

setting up exchange server

Verify that your port forwarding is turned on. Try and telnet to your address on port 25 to see if you get connectivity. Disable 2 of the nics to see if that clears up things.

Exchange 2000 Free busy folder called sniffer?

In the system manager go to public folders-free busy. Under free busy there is a folder called sniffer. Anyone have a clue what that is? I've looked at MS and a few security sites but haven't found anything.

Routing problem with RIPV2 and OSPF

Please be less vague... Can the rip network ping devices on the ospf network? Can the ospf network ping anything on the rip network? Are you redistributing rip into you ospf as? Are you redistributing ospf into your rip network? Post the show ip route output of the 2611 and the next hop...

voice over ip (voip) anyone?

Scott Mac hit it about right at 150k. 125 phones, 20 port conference bridge, 48 analog lines (fricking modems) , 2 t's / pri (voice), 2 call manager servers. That doesn't even include the switching gear another 45k. Hubs and voice *rarely* work well together.

Cisco "Easy VPN" Driving me nuts.

The easy vpn server is "suppose" to be setup the same as configuring the pix for 3.X vpn clients. I'm guessing this since one page on cisco's web site refers to the easy vpn remote as easy vpn client. If you have the PDM enabled just to to tools- vpn wizzard and create a client vpn setup for 3.x...

KILLER discount if you are studying for a certification!

The only test in the professional (NP/DP) series that gave me trouble was the CID. I thought it'd be a breeze and barely studied. I focused on sna since I know the least about that and it isn't even on the new series of exams. I went with the foundation exam to get the others out of the way...

You could vlan your network and just allow the AD server ip address into your vlan or set shares\security so only defined people can access them on a win2k platform.

Anyone heard of something like this with DSL?? Using bellsouth

freaking thing I just had something similar happen with a cisco firewall on a dsl link. Anyhow do a arp -a at a command prompt so see if the default gateway ip and mac address are listed if not there you go. Try setting a static arp entry for it or change your arp timeouts lower if possible.

Pix firewall - internet traffic stops after 1 hour

All I know is it works. I haven't tried to explain this ISP to you. Lets just say they wouldn't have a clue what a broadcast domain is. They couldn't even tell me what type of bridging they implemented for dsl.

Best hardware firewall for $3k or so.

I'd go with Pix 506e or netscreen 5xp unlimited. Builting in logging is the same or lack there of. Need client side vpn behind a nat device? Pix can do 1 client behind pat and the netscreen is suppose to do multiple behind nat. My personal preference would be the Pix because netscreens support...
