foamy water/pump rattle Is my MCP-600 too powerful?

Thanks for all your suggestions. I feel like an idiot. All I had to do was fill the res a little more, and the foaming issue went away. Anyway, I used 1 oz WW/ 1L H20. I have 1/2" tubing. I'm not sure what a baffle is, but the bay-res I bought has a divider that's supposed to help with...

foamy water/pump rattle Is my MCP-600 too powerful?

I just installed a new pump and reservior in my water-cooled setup, and have two (potential) issues. 1) There are very few bubbles in the lines, but when I turn the pump on, everything turns to foam. I'm using distilled H20 w/ water wetter. The water velocity seems rather..umm...vigorous...

Tatung 23-inch Widescreen HDTV LCD - ~16 ms!!! $1,248 HOT

They do have a 30 incher as well, but it's $1848: Tatung 30-inch LCD HDTV with Speakers and Wall-Mount Kit I'd love to get one, but that's a lot of bank (almost double what I paid for my PC). I'm considering it, though, since I could really use a combo tv/monitor. Also, I'm still a little...

Please critique my new case / cooling setup... and help answer my Q's =)

That's what I used to think, but it's not necessarily the case. Some of the popular, cheap pumps are actually quite loud, especially after months of use (ViaAqua). My old ViaAqua was louder than any air cooling fan I ever heard (even the big Delta's).
  8. S

To replace or not to replace (a water pump)

I had the same problem with the Via Aqua. One pump was way too loud, and another pump broke down after only few months use. Now I'm using a "Quiet One" pump from Foster's and Smith, but I'd have to say that I'm not particularly happy with this one either. It is quieter than the Via Aqua...

    water - cooling the cooler

I've heard of people cooling water rigs with small (dorm-sized) refrigerators. It's easy enough to build in its simplest form, just put the rad in a fridge (maybe submerged in a liquid) and use some extra tubing and a drill to close the loop back to the case. A pelt on the reservior or...

Destroyed my YS Ttch 48 with a finger.

Geez, what's with the condescending comments in this thread? It's a simple mistake, happens all the time. Get over yourselves. I nicked a finger on a 120mm delta once. Didn't break anything on the fan, and to my surprise it didn't hurt either. Made me jump, though. I found the following...

why is this pump so LOUD?!?!

I use distilled H2O w/ water wetter. I'm pretty sure the shaft is ceramic. I did open it up when I did the reservior mod, and I think it was ceramic. The magnet may have corroded, or just got some wear. I used to leave it on most of the time. This pump is supposed to be compatible with...

why is this pump so LOUD?!?!

Coolant level is good (it never changes, so - no leaks) I use distilled water and water wetter. I am running he Via aqua pump inline. But the pump shouldn't be able to tell the difference, 'cause I modified the intake to have a small reservior (holds ~ 1/2 req'd volume, so it's not optimal)...

why is this pump so LOUD?!?!

I have a ViaAqua 1300 pump in my water-cooling rig, and the pump has suddenly gotten rather loud. It used to be much quieter than all the fans, now it drowns them out. I even have to unplug it at night because of the noise, where I used to leave it on without being able to even hear it. Has...

Which is better for temps? Reservoir or no reservoir?

I vote that a reservoir is better, but not because of temps. Reservoir just makes it easier to purge bubbles, and is faster to fill. I have a custom-made reservoir/bubble-trap attached to my in-line pump, and it's lots faster to fill than when I had a tee. I don't really have to fill very...

? about reservoir and filling the lines

What really matters is the temperature equilibrium established in your water setup via heat transfer: heat in (CPU, pump, etc) = heat out (radiator or heater core + fans) It really shouldn't matter how much "reserve" water you have in the system, except in the short term. With additional...

    Widescreen monitors?

I'd like to get a widescreen monitor to watch DVD's in my room. I'd like to get a decent-sized one, at least 21", but not huge (I still want to be able to use it as a regular computer monitor). About the only possibilities I see are some of the smaller plasma TV's, which might break the bank...

Hmmm...I want to stay out of the Mac vs. PC wars, but still have to say I WANT ONE!!! With one of those wide-screen LCD's, too! Those rock! Too bad it would cost me about $5K Looks pretty sweet, though. Dispite the skeptism here, I don't find hard to believe that a duallie 64-bit 2Ghz proc...

    Silent Computers

I disagree. Water-cooling is much quieter in my experience than air cooling. I DO have a cheap-ass pump (viaaqua 1300), but there's no way it makes as much noise as any size fan. Put some sound dampening material (i use an old mouse pad) under it so it can't resonate vibrations through the...

    Crossplatform Wireless Internet Connection Sharing

I've done this without much trouble. I use a d-link wireless access point/router, but any 802.11b compatible router will do. You can also use the apple airport basestation, but they're more expensive, and really don't offer better performance. Maybe a little easier to set up, but 802.11b...

I have 802.11b set up in my house and it works great. The thing is, I want to connect my xbox, and another PC (without a wireless card) to the network as well. These guys are in my room, and I can't run cables from the wirless router to them. I have another router (non-wireless), and I'd...

    via aqua 1300 seems loud

My via aqua 1300 seems kinda loud compared to other pumps. It makes a vibrating noise that can be heard even with the case closed. It makes the same amount of noise if I put it in a bucket outside of my case...the sound is internal to the pump. Is it getting old, maybe? Anyone have any...

    fan/heatcore placement

That might be a good idea... I was also thinking of making some kind of shroud for the heatcore. What have other people done that worked well?
  23. S

    fan/heatcore placement

Yes, I meant neg. pressure. I don't think it makes much difference, but I'm primarily concerned about keeping the heatcore cool. Do people usually have the heatcore fan blow air through the heatcore, or, umm, suck air through it? (keep yer minds outta the gutter) :Q
  24. S

    fan/heatcore placement

I have a d-tek heatcore and three 120mm fans in my case. Two 120mm are at the back, one in the front w/ the heatcore. The rear fans are installed in the case as exhaust. Front fan blows into the case through the heatcore. It would be really easy to turn it around so that the front fan sucks air...

    how much overvolt AMD?

Hmmm... I'm at 1.85V mostly because it was as high as I felt comfortable with at the time. I'm getting great performance, but there's always the thought in the back of my head that I can do better ;) I should also mention that I'm water-cooling the CPU, and it stays relatively chilly, never...

    how much overvolt AMD?

What are people's opinions on how much overvolt is acceptable? I know I may reduce the life of my 2400+ (like I'm really going to hold on to it for long when the hammers come out anyway) but I don't want it to burn out in a month either. Any guidelines out there? What are you using on your...

    Safe temp. for AthlonXP 1600+

The AMD tech specs for XPs gives a max thermal die temp of 90 C. But I think most people would agree that an XP wouldn't last long if allowed to run near this temp. 63 C is a bit high, but probably won't damage the CPU in the short term. In the long term, it may decrease the life of the...

Time travel impossible? Your HT thoughts....

I avoid saying something is impossible. You will never be proven right, and most likely will be proven wrong someday. In this case, I doubt it will be in your lifetime...or in the lifetime of Earth. But you never know. It seems logically impossible to travel back in time (at least, to me)...

fairly Badass computer for under $1000

I don't understand why people always feel the need to pick sides in the processor wars. It seems to me that both AMD and Intel have their strong points, and it's up to them to fight it out over which one I should buy. The better choice depends largely on the time you buy, and the $$ you are...

NEW 10.3" LCD screen for $15 Hot? (replace IOpener screen)

NO!! Wait!! This is just the LCD screen...you need a controller to do most of what you guys are proposing. A 'pinout' won't help you. Unless maybe you want to use it to replace a screen from some other manufacturer's notebook. THAT's the most expensive part!! The only place I know of to...

    Can you overclock a Mac?

xlr8yourmac is a great site. You would have a hard time overclocking an imac, because Apple doesn't make it easy to do. I believe that you'd have the same issues trying to overclock a Dell or Gateway PC. You have more control when you buy components and build a PC yourself, which isn't really...

Mac users (or others), I have a couple of questions.

MS Word 2000 should be able to open a mac word file no problem. Some of the formatting might be a little different (margins, page break locations, etc.) but it's not bad. You don't need any conversion software to do it. Just today I opened, edited, and printed a word doc e-mailed to me from...
