That's where a good portion of our savings will be. spend a little extra on a processor and the motherboards for it are cheap. Probably see alot of people buy one hammer for their system and add a second after the prices drop a bit.
yea, a buddy of mine has a 1.4 t-bird that's been through two fried motherboards and a fried stick of ram. Don't ask me how it happens to him but of all the stuff he's gone through that 1.4 is still kickin.
Dear Nerdy,
Okay, hold it, if you can't even think of something to start a conversation about you need to take this really slowly. It's not gonna happen over night and if you push too fast she may only be turned away. That is if she only see's you as someone from the "geek" or "nerd" group...
With video cards getting hotter and hotter ATX specs should allow for a card to be flipped. It could help video card heat sinks be more effective considering heat travels up anyways. I don't see that much extra heat affecting my cpu considering i have two exhaust fans right there anyways.
If I leave my system running for longer than 12 hours I start to get text errors. For aim conversations I'll recieve messages but no text shows up, and web pages load with certain texts over others. It's fine after I restart but I'd like to get this resolved. I just reinstalled windows not...
See the thing is I really really want a laptop. So far I haven't come across the right price/configuration combination. Mainly companies are trying to sell dvd/cdrw combo drives that I don't want on my labtop. My desktop has a burner and I'd like to play dvd's on my laptop.
So I just...
I don't want to be accused of neffing but it stands for posting pointless posts strickly for the sole purpose of raising your post count. Yes posting adds to it but when you have a lot of useless posts it's considered neffing.
I slightly remember a post about this a while back that said that...
I only wish my case can look that good when i'm done with it. but i'm gonna try it with blacklights and my attempt with water cooling comes before that even.
It's really the way to go if you only have one hard drive. It really helps same your files if you system ever craps out(although I'm sure we all try to avoid that as much as possible but it doesn't hurt to be prepared)
I'm no expert when it comes to intel's stuff but don't P4's scale back if they begin to overheat. So you should have much to worry about there cause it sounds like you're well below those thresholds. Before I really got into building computers I had an athlon 800 running at 89 degrees C for a...
Pretty much already been said but until new games/programs come out to take advantage of these features they are pretty much useless. Basically ATA 133, DDR 400, and an 8X video card are strickly for bragging rights.
I didn't think I'd have any problems. My 1800 works fine with this 350 but a friend of mine gave me second thoughts.
Thx for the responses. I'm gonna try it when the parts come in but if it's not stable that'll be my first place to check.
Might be your power suppy. I put up a post about using a 2000 XP with a 350 cause I heard it might not be stable, but I like to check anandtech just to be certain.
Just wondering if an XP 2000 will have any stability problems with a 350w psu. I'll be running it with a epox 8KH+ and a radeon 8500 video card. Should I upgrade the psu too or can it wait for a while?
Definitly build you're own. But do a lot of research before you do. In prebuilt systems you're not always sure of what you're getting, but if you build it yourself you know exactly what you're getting and something goes wrong odds are you know what happened and you can fix it cheaply. Plus if...
Make sure you've installed via's 4 in 1 drivers. Probabably already did but i forgot them recently and I couldn't figure out why my computer was so slow.
Clawhammer for sure. Latest and greatest processors usually get the greatest hype. P4 at 3.06 Ghz will be a big deal but think of the pricetag that thing will carry.
Geekish Thoughts you rule. I can't believe I didn't think of that myself. One thing I just forgot to install when I put windows 2000 on. Seems to have fixed it. Just got done playing an hour of Jedi Knight 2 and it ran so smoothly. Thx again.
I had that ECS board and it was rock solid. However there were a lot of complaints about that board so buyer beware. It does give you the nice option of using your current ram until you have the money to upgrade to DDR.
Yes for all XP's you need to manually unlock the chip so you can change the multipier in the bios. So to answer your question it's a combination of the two. I am however lazy so I simply raised my fsb to achieve higher clock speeds.
