    BTW... (Wow, I am a spammer)... I assumed from your topic that you're trying to get the best quality. If you just want to have photos to share with people without worrying about a minor loss of quality, JPEG is good. BMP and TIFF, being lossless, result in giant files.

    RAW is the format that some expensive cameras produce. It contains various metadata that helps photoediting software determine how the photo was taken. If your camera does not produce RAW, save as TIFF or BMP.
