    Most mystical rebooting problem ever

Well.... What do I know... I followed Kazani's advice and got rid of the APC UPS. (As soon as I did, the UPS started beeping and blinking its lights indignantly, demanding that every part of it be replaced.) Without the UPS, I have not had a single reboot so far, going for 2 days now. So...

    Most mystical rebooting problem ever

At some point, my overclocked Opteron 146 system began to experience sporadic loss of power/reboot. At first I didn't care, but the reboots became annoying. Eventually, this caused me to stop overclocking; then replace the motherboard, memory, CPU, and power supply. As it turns out, none...

Possible warning on Opty 144/146/148 Etc...

Looks like Monarch no longer has the 146 in stock.. they list an ETA of 12/16 with no guarantees. Thanks to this thread, I got my 146 CABYE 0540 FPAW from them in time, now running @ 2900MHz 1.48V with quiet 7-volted cooling. :) Kudos to TankGuys.

Just got my 146 from Monarch. It's a CABYE :D 0540 FPAW. On Friday I'll get the remaining parts and see what it can do..........

Possible warning on Opty 144/146/148 Etc...

Good thing I saw this thread... I immediately ordered a boxed 146 from Monarch (Saturday night), wondering if they really have any left in stock. They had a weird problem processing my order (which increased the tension a bit!) Now I just got notified of shipping -- it should be here this...

[FIXED] P4C800E + 2.6C persistently locks up in MemTest

Now cooking stable at 3.033ghz (default VCore) with 466mem @ 2.5-3-3-6-4 @2.65V, PAT/Turbo mode enabled. (I'm using 1GB OCZ 3700 Gold pair like Anand's review - it works as Anand suggested. Going above 242fsb (3146mhz) required raising VCore, so I'm afraid my CPU cannot go much higher than...

[FIXED] P4C800E + 2.6C suffers persistent MemTest crashes

My last failed attempt - underclocked at 1733mhz (133fsb) with 333mem. At this point, the CPU consumes something like <50watts max. I'll just have to try my other CPU..

[FIXED] P4C800E + 2.6C persistently locks up in MemTest

I've tried as conservative as it gets - 266mhz at cas 3448 and 2.5-337. At this point I'm seriously doubting that the memory has anything to do with it. I am starting to sustect the mobo (or even CPU) may just be defective... I'll swap in a P4/1.6A later tonight and report what happens..

[FIXED] P4C800E + 2.6C suffers persistent MemTest crashes

Crashed again - using Corsair at 266mhz this time! Whatever it is, I doubt it's the memory causing these problems. I'll try swapping in a P4/1.6A later tonight.

[FIXED] P4C800E + 2.6C suffers persistent MemTest crashes

In my current setup, actual power consumption is way less than 150watts, so I doubt the PSUs are the problem. Both PSUs support P4 and the Seasonic worked in my previous 100% stable P4 rig. Trying Corsairs @ 2.65v asus (probably 2.7 actual -- they dont like more juice)..

Should I use Corsair twinx 3200LL vs. 3700 for P4/2.6C overclock?

I'm considering buying an Asus P4C800-E and P4/2.6C this Christmas, so I need you opinion. I intend to use Zalman 7000 quiet cooler, so speeds above ~3.1GHz aren't practical. Which is faster: 2.6C @3.0GHz (923fsb) using Corsair Twinx1024-3700 @ 461DDR (1:1 ratio) with slower mem timings...

Slowdowns from overclocking Radeon 9800 core?

Hmm.. well I'm pretty sure I wasn't playing with AF/FSAA while overclocking. If I was, the difference I observed would be in different (fillreate-limited) benchmarks. But the impending hurricane could have warped my reasoning.. :(

Slowdowns from overclocking Radeon 9800 core?

So far, I got around the problem by jumping by 5mhz and immediately rechecking both benchmarks. So far I got to 365 mhz core with no problems at all. Maybe jumping too quickly causes the problem. Right now, I have no electricity in the wake of the hurricane. I'l resume investigating once I...

Slowdowns from overclocking Radeon 9800 core?

I got my ATI Radeon 9800np (non-Pro) last night. Everything is working great, but when I try to overclock it, I encounter a disturbing trend: As soon as I overclock the core (using either Powerstrip or RadLinker), the card slows down in several benchmarks. In particular, 3dmark2001 vertex...

How hot is Radeon 9800 non-pro?

The problem with the Zalman's fanless cooler is that it needs some airflow to be effective... like a case fan... and I only have two undervolted fans in my entire case (7v cpu hood fan and 5v PSU outtake). So far, I'm thinking of replacing ATI's cooler with my Alpha PAL15 low-profile heatsink...

How hot is Radeon 9800 non-pro?

Hey everyone! Hi Michael :) By "hot" I meant physically hot... sorry if the title was not clear enough, resulting in the series of tragic misunderstandings. If the same resistors and voltage regulators are used, then I guess it makes sense for it to be the same voltage. My reason for...

How hot is Radeon 9800 non-pro?

pelikan, is there any particular reason for this? If I recall correctly, for example, GeForce4 ti4200 has slightly lower core voltage than the ti4400 and ti4600. The bottom line, of course, is "does it run cool enough" which I'll find out soon :) Thanks, Leo

How hot is Radeon 9800 non-pro?

I decided to give ATI a try to see what the fuss is about, so I've ordered a "genuine ATI" 9800 non-Pro. Can any 9800 (non-Pro) owners out there tell me how hot it gets? (Without overclocking or modding.) Say, compared with a GeForce4, or a rough wattage estimate. My understanding is the...

Scanning film slides--too tough for a scanner?

Scanning film slides--too tough for a scanner?

I was wondering, can you use a "normal" scanner to get high-res scans of 35mm slides? Slides usually require a projector light behind them to expose the colors. So if you use a regular scanner, won't this mean that you'll get a very dark image? Any recommendations on what scanner would be...

Quiestest 400-450watt PSU? Probably not the Enermax "Whisper"...

Seasonic's Active PFC power supplies rival Zalman's in quality. Out of the box, Zalman is probably quieter, but SilentPCReview's tests suggest that Seasonic is more efficient, meaning it produces less heat. This means you can change to a quieter fan w/out causing any problems. I'm using a...

What's a good reliable laptop for $1500? (got it)

Thanks for all the advice. We ended up buying an HP for $1450 after rebates at Circus City. It is a new model P4M/2.67GHz with 512MB RAM and a sharp 15" 1400x1050 TFT screen (also 60GB and integrated 801.11b). The downsides are the 64MB shared SiS graphics, 1-2 hour battery life, and ~7lb...

Western Digital 10,000 RPM Serial-ATA Raptor @ Anandtech

Let's face it, the Raptor is not the miracle we anticipated for desktop usage. Once "true" desktop 10,000RPM drives emerge, I see no reason they should be any slower than 7200RPM drives. Perhaps Maxtor with their Quantum team will make something truly viable. Too bad Raptor won't go into my...
