Anyone want to decrypt this error message?

No protective software (Norton, ZoneAlarm, etc...) is running on this computer. There haven't been any software changes except for Microsoft Updates for the past few months. All this computer is used for is to access the internet, do some word processing, and listen to music.

Anyone want to decrypt this error message?

I should say that was happening in local folders, not just on the internet. So I don't think IE itself is the problem per se. There is definitely something malicious going on, now I just have to find it and kill it and make it stay dead. As an interesting side note, I ran a virus scan...

Anyone want to decrypt this error message?

Everytime I change the PRIVACY settings back to Medium and click OK, whatever is running changes them right back to the ultra-mega-ridiculous settings. As for the security settings, I've checked them all. ActiveX is enabled, and it is set-up to never download unsigned content or run ActiveX...

Anyone want to decrypt this error message?

I have a computer running Win2k. The following error message has started popping up whenever I try to open any folder, My Documents, My Computer, etc.. (even when I try to type a drive letter directly into Run from the Start menu). "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX...

    Bad Combo Drive! Bad!

My AOpen COM5232 AAH PRO will not eject CDs or DVDs after data has been read from them. For example, after I put a disc in and copy a document to the hard drive, the disc will not eject until the computer is restarted or until the computer is put into stand-by. I've already tried the drive as...

    DVD/CD Tray will not eject

It does detect instantly and is jumpered as master now. However, I'll try setting it as a slave or as a cable select and see if it prefers that. I had another CDRW a while back that insisted on being a master or else you couldn't use the IDE channel. Thanks for the suggestion.

    DVD/CD Tray will not eject

I have an AOpen 5232 combo DVD/CD-RW drive running on WinXP Pro SP1, an MSI K7N-L m/b with 512 MB DDR 333 Corsair RAM and two hdds. The AOpen is the secondary master with no slaves on that channel. Ocassionally, I will insert a disc, copy something off of it, and then press eject only to find...

    Dead Power Supply

Thanks...I figured as much. I put an Antec SL450 in my good one. This one is old and slow and only used for email checking and word processing. So I was hoping to get away with something cheap. Thanks!

    Dead Power Supply

I have an old Athlon system. Came in, pushed the power button, and the system was dead. I took the PSU out, jumpered the power to ground, and got no life. So, I replaced the power supply (since it's an old system, I used a cheap $30 Allied supply). System fired right up, with no problems...

    Error While Booting

Yeah...it's a little sparse being that I'm trying to do this without really seeing the computer. The CMOS reset is a good answer and I'm sure that will fix the problem. I'm just irked I didnt' think of it sooner. It's always the first thing I do when weird stuff happens. Thanks!

    Error While Booting

Here's an interesting problem I've never seen before. (Also, this is not my computer, so the hardware specs are fuzzy...I know it is a Windows 2k OS and there are 512MB of RAM. Sorry for the lame specs...that doesn't help diagnosing problems). The computer was turned on normally, booted...

    Help me choose a processor!

Are you upgrading or building a new system? If you're upgrading from an older Socket A Athlon, you'll have to get the 2800+ Sempron to be compatible with the socket. If you're building a new system, I would suggest an Athlon64 over the Sempron.

    Help, system is screwed.

I'm going to take a guess and say it's the motherboard. Even with a different card or monitor, the problem is still occurring, so the common denominator is the motherboard. Sounds like maybe the AGP slot has had enough. I don't think the CPU is bad. If it was, there would be some beeping...

What will be the last great Graphics card for AGP?

Personally, I don't think they will make a 7000 version. As for a 6850, I think it is definitely in the realm of possibilities. PCIe isn't taking over very quick, partly due to the lack of PCIe AMD boards. But, ATI is definitely moving away from AGP and I think nVidia will follow suit...

    PSU Voltages

Sounds like you're hooked up right. And you have plenty of amps. And if it's stable, then you're good to go. Now, if I could just get my CPU temps down a little further I could overclock my 2500+ into a nice 3100+.

    Which Enermax is better?

I would go with the 460W PSU. Note: Wattage is important. You also want to check on the amperage on the 12V rail. Anything over 20 amps will give you ample room. But, the more the better, since high end graphics cards and CPUs love 12V power, as do hard drives. I think the 460W will...

What will be the last great Graphics card for AGP?

GeForce 6800 Ultra Extreme Platinum Super Fast Edition. :) Yeah. 6800 Ultra is the best around right now. And to be honest, I haven't seen anything that makes it worth upgrading an entire system just to get PCIe. So if you can swing the money, an AGP 6800 is the recommended way to go...

    BIOS settings.

Almsot all BIOSes today are auto-detect. Thus, you shouldn't have to change anything to get your default settings. Some motherboards (such as my MSI K7N2 Delta-L) have a jumper that determines maximum front side bus (FSB), CPU speed, etc... Since you're getting the system put together, all of...

    PSU Voltages

The more accurate the PSU is, the more stable your system will be. I've never seen a PSU that was exactly what it should be. Generally, the weakest line is the 12V line. This is a problem, however, since almost all components in the system use 12V. Most importantly, most CPUs now require a...

    annoying problem with monitor

The problem is most likely your video card. Check the obvious stuff first (e.g. card seated firmly in slot, not running hot, no stray cables laying on the card, etc...). If possible, connect the monitor to a different system. If it works fine, the card is the problem. If it still does it...

    New Computer

Sad as it is, I just finished building a new rig, upgrading my computer from a 600 MHz Duron. It was not top of the line when I got it, and it lasted me 4+ years. I'm not on for top of line premium prices. Only thing I upgraded was the video card after 2 years. I think any computer can last...

    Power Supply Smells Funny

I just installed built a brand new system. M/b, memory, drives, the works. Used an Antec SL450. No funny smells from any components. If the smell goes away in a week, you're probably ok. If it doesn't, you could have a problem. About a year ago, I had a PSU on a brand new computer...

building a new system. Seekin insight!

I suggest at least a 400W PSU. More importantly, make sure there is plenty of amperage on the 12V rail. Most stock, generic PSUs come with maybe 12 amps. To drive a high power system like you're building, you'll want at least 16 amps, more if you plan to expand later. Many instability...

buying budget system for a friend...

Yes...more RAM, at least 512MB is you want to install WinXP. And make sure the power supply has plenty of amperage on the 12V rail. Most generic power supplies aren't up to snuff when it comes to the 12V side. Too many problems are caused by bad power supplies. I also think Lyfer is right...

    Repeated beeps on bootup

Yes, you can test the board using the PC-2100 stick. You can't hurt your motherboard by installing a faster stick, since it will default to the maximum board speed (in your case, PC-1600 speed). As long as the RAM is 184-Pin DDR, you'll be fine. I had a memory slot die on a motherboard...

    who's got a msi k7n2 delta-L

I just bought this m/b. I'm using 512MB of Corsair ValueSelect PC3200. I set the DRAM clock to run synchronously with the AthlonXP 2500+ Barton (333 MHz) FSB, since it wanted to run in async mode byt default. It's working just fine. I plan to add another 512MB of the same thing so that I can...

    New Athlon Running Warm

Thanks for the replies. I applied a new batch of compound, and lowered the VCore a bit. Still stable, temp went down a few degrees. I'm going to try to use the case temp monitor instead of the MSI since I don't think it's very accurate.

    New Athlon Running Warm

I just installed an Athlon XP 2500+ on an MSI K7N2 Delta-L m/b. The HSF is a volcano 10, solid copper with a 5000 RPM fan. I removed the thermal pad and replaced it with Arctic Alumina ceramique thermal compound (avoided the Arctic silver since it is conductive). The BIOS reports temps of...

    Windows Log-on

Why would Windows require me to log-on twice? I'm on a LAN at college, and when I start my computer, it asks for a password (I just hit enter). Suddenly, it now does this twice. After hitting enter, it reads the hdd and then asks for the password again. Then it proceeds to Windows. Any idea...

Successful 250W Power Supply on ECS K7S5A??

The +3.3V and +5V have a 165W total allowance. The +5V has a 2.0A stand-by. It's a pretty solid power supply. When the last PS blew, it fried the DIMM sockets on the old m/b, but the RAM and CPU and just fine. I'm just looking for a cheap replacement that can be upgraded with relative ease...

Successful 250W Power Supply on ECS K7S5A??

Has anyone out there successfully used a 250W power supply on a K7S5A m/b? My m/b is trashed and I would like to use all of the components on this m/b, but I don't know if the 250W PS is strong enough. It's only a Duron 800, 256MB RAM, 2 hard drives, and a CD burner. Any suggestions or...

What kind of PSU's do you use for ECS K7S5A Mobo?

I'm looking at buying the same m/b. I've heard that it needs a well made power supply, so I think I'm gonna go with an Antec 300W, even though it's only running two drives and a Duron 800. I haven't heard anyone successfully running it with anything smaller than 300, and generic PS tend to not...

Extreme M/b Problem - Any Help?

Yeah. I've cleared the CMOS (which, by the way, is not done with a jumper like ASUS claims). And I've double checked the power supply. Nothing. I think the DIMM slots were fried when the power supply crapped out. I've tested all three with three different sticks of RAM and still nothing...

Extreme M/b Problem - Any Help?

Thanks for the idea, but it's still not working. I think when the PS burnt out, it must have trashed the DIMM slots at the least, since I'm likely looking at a new m/b. Oh well. Such is life.
