Do you know as a fact that your power supply is good? How many watts is the PSU? Are you sure you don't have any extra motherboard stand-offs that might be grounding out on the back of the motherboard? Also, did you reset your BIOS to default to make sure there weren't any stale settings causing...
TightVNC would be your best bet to keep your resolution, but your RDP app doesn't allow you to explicitly set your resolution based on your systems offered resolutions?
All I see is "Linux is Free". Sure, it's free if your time is worthless. I can tell you right now, it's not the best solution for everyone. I prefer UNIX/Linux based OSes, but mainly because it does everything I need it to do. Gamers this would not be a solution. Yes there is Cedega, but I doubt...
Right now I'm running a Sempron 3300+ on my system, and needless to say, has been a great CPU for the price, and OCed from 1.8 to 2.5GHz easy w/o a stability loss at all. Now, I want to upgrade to something a bit better, but all these A64 revisions have snuck up on me and completely blown my...
Just have whoever is going to get the line to their house to run a strong gateway of some sort (Might look into some BSDs) and have it provide MAC filtering DHCP. Run an access point from that box, or even turn it into an AP. Run 802.11g with WPA enabled, a have a repeater at each house to make...
I'd go for a OpenBSD Box for the Concentrator (Server) using ISAKMPD, and any sort of client can connect to it with any free VPN client. At least that's how I run mine, and it runs great. MD5 hashed passphrases, Certs, and Blowfish encryption.
You are pretty mcuh stuck with that for cracking WEP keys. You can always get a FreeBSD or Linux bootable CD and use dwepcrack or kismet assuming your card is Prism2 based. Also, if you are a Mac user of any kind, you can use KisMac.
There shouldn't be a problem doing this as long as you have a seperate partition to put it on. From there just Google about setting up the Solaris or Windows boot manager to allow to choose from the two.
I would just stick with the ethernet, or switch to firewire. Depending on the speed of the firewire, it will generally be faster than your 10/100. Really, if you do the math, it's not going to really speed anything up unless you do a mesh network of firewire. It will of course speed up the...
Install NetStumbler, and check your signal rate. Sounds like you are getting a horrible signal and running a 1M to even gain a connection. How far are these two wifi connections, and is there anything in between? Walls, florecent lights, metal? If your signal is weak, you might consider an AP...
Both the Orinoco and Cisco cards are just your usual Compaq/D-lInk/NetGear/Linksys cards with a different name. Grab anything that uses a Prism 2.x/3.x chipset, and you should be set.
Only thing I change is my prompt. I did alias my color at one time, but that got really really annoying with transparent windows. About the only ones I use are the ones I type by accident that FreeBSD has by default.
Try Fluxbox. I wouldn't expect to get KDE 3.x or Gnome 2.6 to run much faster on a virtual system. What virtual software are you using, and what speed of system?
What's the signal strength on these wifi boxes, and what technology is it? (i.e. 802.11b 802.11g) Also what speeds are the wifi NICs set at, and is the router set for those speeds?
D-Link's service isn't too bad, but not 24/7. Usually, if it's a very technical matter, it might take up to 2 days for a Level 2 tech to get back with you.
Sounds like you might need to restart your Window Sharing service. The old NetBIOS names might still be logged as the old IPs. Can you access it with \\<server IP>\<sharename> ?
Depends on the model, and what type of router you are talking about. Usually, they even out, but the Wi-Fi routers can have some major differences. It's more of a personal preference, but there are a few that can be buggy.
Most liekly you won't need all of them. A lot of them will get picked up during the install. Microsoft should support them, and have them in the Windows Update.
Don't count on it. The multipliers, FSB setting, and voltage is usually hardcoded. In other words, you can't change it. Sometimes you might run across a model that supports a few different CPUs, but the speed difference is very minute.
Did you calibrate your monitor for 1024x768? Set your desktop to that size, and calibrate it, then switch it back. It's not everyday you will find a monitor that will sync just right. That is if that's the issue.
It doesn't quite work that way. You are losing a lot of ranges and data blocks. Providing stereo isn't going to really make up for 1/2 of the data loss from dropping the encoding. I'm not even sure it really saves that much room to drop to mono. Try doing 80KBps stereo and mono on the same song...
I don't see why you couldn't, as long as you have a 32-bit/64-bit capable CPU. Just install in different directories, and modify the boot.ini if it doesn't accordingly.
Can you ping the router at all? Does this router have a NULL modem connection? If so, see if you can connect through that. Also, does Linksys provide a remote firmware utility for it? You might want to try that as well.
I'm assuming you are saying that the old profile from the old NIC is still existing. You can always put the NIC back inh, and uninstall the NIC, or you can try to find information on how to edit the registry to destroy it.
And you tried hooking the router into the 2nd NIC in your Father's system to try to share the connection? If the VPN client is making all connection go through the tunnel, you should be able to setup his system to only allow the shared network destinations on the other side to go through the...
Well if someone finds a exploit for your router firewall before you do, there would definatly be a reason. Personally I find there to be a reason to put a firewall in front of everything, even if you have one at the gateway.
What is on the main partition? Not that it matters all that much, but are you using the GUI Ghost image to recieve the images, or are you netbooting, and taking it from DOS?
