warning warning !
Just got a new 2800+ and its multiplier is locked at 12.5 !
How high can i go on about 1.74V on asus nforce2 board ?
im currently testing 183mhz * 12.5 and all looks fine.
BEWARE ppl, this mobo is very specific with its RAM, especially at speeds of 166mhz and more.
Stick to the ASUS list. I'm finally stable @ 194mhz with Kingston.
I give up !
I have 2 win98se and 2 winXP machines set up on a workgroup, connected via a 8 port hub.
The win98 machines don't see any other computers in Network Neighborhood.
All computers can be found when i use Find | Computer. The network printers also work.
Internet sharing also works...
nforce2 ultra 400 chipset boards officialy support 200*2mhz fsb cpus like the xp3200+.
eg. asus a7n8x rev. 2.0
You need a new mobo. Simply rip out the old 1 and put in the new 1 ;)
I have a 2400+ on a asus a7n8x-dlx and use 'Speedfan' to get the on-chip diode temp.
Brace yourself...these real chip temps are frightning.
Where the mb diode would read 32 deg C, the on-chip diode temp can easily be 58C.
"I'm currently running a 2000+ (palamino) on a ECS K7S5A board...can't overclock" .......beep, wrong.
I got hold of a overclocking bios for that MB that works, can't remember where.... do a google.
It's not exactly asus style but there are quite a few oc options.
I've been trying to convert some of my old home videos to (S)VCD disks so i can watch them on my TV through my DVD player.
The quality sucks. The problem comes with the capturing, i think ?
I used PowerDirector Pro 2.1 to capture the video with a ATI 8500 VIVO card. This is a el cheepo...

Thanks peeps
Ok so you dont need more than 2.5V to run 200mhz mem speed.
Thanks for the tip Thugs, i wont go beyond 2.6V again(minimum for my A7N8X)
I was trying to push my el cheepo PC2700 to 190mhz but even with 2.8V it would fail prime after 2h or so. Guess ill have to order that Twinx...
agreed!
Intel also perform well with high memory bandwidth intensive games like quake.
If it wasn't for sse2 Intel would be nowhere when it comes to number crunching. Just look at the FPU scores in sandra.
Almost none of the mainstream software use sse2, so intel is good for almost nothing...
I always thought that Gold interconnects will be next, as the die size gets small enough for it to be economical......but minute carbon tubes makes sense to me.
Smaller means more speed, can't wait :)
I'm sceptical about breaking-in a piece of silicone. It has no will...it works or it doesn't.
Save yourself time, go to the max, see if it works, if it doesn't, back down.
Ditto
The problem is Asus probe.
The wrong cpu sensor is read (socket instead of on-chip). Yes, your 2400 has a on-chip temp sensor thats supposed to be accurate. The bios reads that sensor.
I use "Speedfan" to detect the on-chip sensor temps. CPU temps read about 20C higher than asus probe.
Its safe. Im on a rock solid 175mhz on my 2400. Some even go to 200 and more.
Athlons like the xp2500+ run at 166 standard.
Total mhz relates to watts used. Watts produce heat. If your internal clock stays the same your temp will too.
You might need some extra cooling on your chipset chip...
If the temp reading is from the on-chip temp sensor, 55C is kewl.
My Xp2400(12*175) runs at 68C under prime95 and 53C while idling.
These temps are from the on-chip sensor using software called Speedfan.
Asus probe reads my full load temp as 48C and idle temp as 33C.
It seems that there is a...
I got a xp2400 and didnt bother to look at the chip before instaling it.
WCPUID reports the following.
AMD AthlonXP (model8)
Family 6/7
Model 8
Stepping ID 1
Is this a A or B ?
Ive got a similar rig but....
Drop the Maxtor and go for a IBM/Hitachi deskstar HD
Go for Corsair CL2 PC3200 Twinx DDR, I'm real sorry i didn't.
The xp2500 has 512kb L2 cache as far as i know, so i recon its better.
good luck
Has any1 tried the temp readings of Speedfan.
Asusprobe read my cpu temp while running prime95 @ 45C. Apparantly this is not the on chip temp sensor that is accessed.
Speed fan reads the on chip temp at 68C under prime. Frightning !
Is this "kewl"?
I cool this heater with a copper...
I got a asus a7n8x deluxe with a xp2400+ cpu and 2 x 256mb "el cheepo" cl2.5 pc2700 memory sticks.
I found that i get best benchmarks with my mem and cpu speed in sync. Running stable at 144mhz at the moment with vcore @ 1.75v.
1. How far can i push this cpu and what voltage is still safe(no...
