LG Electronics LST-3510A ATSC/QAM HDTV Receiver + DVD with 720p & 1080i Scaling from DVI for $398 plus ship

The value is in the tuner (STB), not the DVD player. However, since this thing lacks a FireWire port, I'd give it a pass.

Help me pick out a new case!!!

If that's the amount of space you need, then the Antec SX10xx is probably not the case for you. You might want to look at one of the big honkin' Addtronics cases - they might be available in this price range. The Antec you would be looking for is th SX12xx, and they are probably out of yoour...

Quiet at Last, but not Silent--Any ideas?

You can also get strips of 1/8" thick rubber and put them on the tops and bottoms of the HD cage. It'll be a bit of a push to get the cage back on and seated firmly, but that'll cut the vibrations transmitted from the cage to the rest of the case.

    Silverado

<< someone i know, not me personally, has the SK6 and YS-Tech fan, and was cooling his 1.4 to 51, and with the Silverado @ 10V, it's cooling to about 46 ConfusedBW >> How odd. I had my Silverado @ 8V on my non-OC 1GHz Athlon, and it was 41C. My SK-6, on the same rig, is 38C with an 80mm YS...

    SK6 plus Silencer 80mm on tbird 1.4

I've got a 28dB/38cfm YS Tech 80mm on my 1GHz, and it is in the high 30's, so the silencer may put you quite a bit higher than that - it depends on what you're after, and what safety margin you're looking for! (though I've been contemplating a similar move recently...) :D

FYI: Best conducting fan and most quiet heat sink

I don't know, when the squirrels that are turning my ghetto, no-power-required, ultra-silentwater cooling pump and beer dispenser take a break and start chattering at each other, they're pretty loud, too! :D ;)

Thermalright sk6 OMG it rocks but sounds like a jetliner.

If you've got a spare 80mm sitting around, you don't need the adapter for the SK-6. Turn the fan 45 degrees and use the short clips to hold it on. It should snap in fairly easily (takes a little bit of dexterity to get both clips on at the same time), but make sure that it clears the blades of...

Need some fans for a project

Try www.target.com or www.walmart.com - they've got fans still in stock down here, so they should be able to sell some to you on-line!

which fan to use for new hsk's....????

The sk-6, because of the clips it uses to mount fans, can have an 80mm fan mounted on it at a 45degree angle. I have not tried it yet (mobo is being replaced...), but other people are reporting really good results with it. The choice I made for a new HSF: sk-6 + a YS Tech 80mm. Results will be...

Antec case fan specs? Which of these is better?

Check out Gizzo's fan page to look for fan specs for most major manufacturers. You should be able to find comparable fans there, and compare them to the ones you're thinking about...

    Acoustical foam / sound dampening

Think of it this way, would you want to wrap your body (a heat producer) in open cell or closed cell foam? The walls of a case act as a less efficient heatsink to the outside world for the heat inside the case. If you foam the inside of your case, then you putting an insulator as well as a sound...

any way to detect false advertising

While I've never tried them (always wanted to, but never got around to it...), Radio Shack does sell sound level meters. Since sound power dissipates with the square of the distance, and fan noise levels are rated generally at 1 meter, you should be able to test these fans at ~8 inches, and be...

    Fanwards ho!!!!

Sure heat rises, but a case is a pressurized system that can have its own dynamics. For instance, in my case, I've got a Noise Control Silverado (for now...) that has a side intake blower fan, rather than a top-mount fan. It is almost directly in front of one of my rear case fans. Guess which...

    Fanwards ho!!!!

I'd go with QuackQuack for your first configuration to see, but people have reported getting better results with the front fans blowing out and the rear ones blowing in. Get a copy of motherboard monitor, try both and see which gives you the best results. Also, make sure that you focus on the...

Any tips for a quieter case?

Definitely try sequentially unplugging one of the fans at a time (except the HSF and the PSU), and seeing which one makes your case the quietest. If there is little variation, then that means that they are all pretty loud, and you may be looking at swapping all of them to decrease the noise (I...

    Gladiator vs ????

I've got an SK-6 on order, so I have some confidence that it will perform well, but no real experience with it yet. OTOH, the DO3+ is a thing of beauty. Sort of like Medusa. From behind. When that fan turns on you, you turn to stone. Stone deaf, that is. (It's kind of loud. WHAT? ISAID IT'S...

    Too many fans?

Look at what the net power your PSU is producing. Your 250W PSU will generally not deliver the entirety of that to the mobo/peripherals/etc. Depending on your case fans, they should consume between 1 - 2 watts a piece (check the manufacturer), so if you are in danger of browning out your rig...

What is the airspeed of a swallow?

The gist of my thought for the brains roaming free here is that pressure will build up in the mouth of the funnel (back pressure to the funnel, static pressure to the fan) causing the fan's efficiency to decrease and the overall volume delivered to decrease. However, I'd be curious as to whether...

What is the airspeed of a swallow?

Can some of you physics/engineer types check my math? I did some QuickMath(tm) to determine the air speed difference between a 60mm and an 80mm fan at equivalent air flow ratings. Everybody talks about how 80mm fans with a funnel don't give the same results as an equivalent (in cfm) 60mm fan, so...

    papst fans

Check out Newark - they have a lot of papst fans (under the papst ebm brand I believe), but the mdel numbers have been changed to protect the innocent. Sorry, but I think that ~$20/fan is about the going rate for these types of fans... To error check that 12 dBA rating - look at the air flow...

Help me build a QUIET home server...please

The Panaflo L1A's are good for a quiet PC. I like the PC Power & Cooling Silencers better, though (they seem to move more air with less sound...). Anybody know where you can find that Thermaltake fan on-line? I haven't seen it, and I've got an SK-6 coming in a few days (weeks? years?). If you...
