VPN connection to SBS 2003 network

Well, apparently there's something that eludes me. I got DHCP, DNS, WINS an RRAS configured, yet still VPN client can't see the computer list in Network Places. I don't know what else to do, I've tried pretty much everything I could find. Any ideas? If you some screenshots of my configurations...

UPDATE: I fixed WINS (reinstalled) and it's now working. I haven't tried the VPN since I'm inside the LAN now, will try it later today. I noticed that some Windows Vista machines still don't show up in Network Places. Is there something that I need to configure in Vista?

Windows XP. Haven't tried with Vista yet. WINS is not configured. It is installed, however when I try to enable it it gives an error with the code 536870911. The services won't start :S

GPO newbie, some questions.

Exactly what I was thinking. That's why I didn't do a lot of tweaking to the default GPO, just minor esthetic changes to the OS, stuff that I want applied company wide. Heavier restrictions such as prohibited apps, etc. will have to go into their own GPO. I was just asking if this was the best...

GPO newbie, some questions.

Post - GPOs Newbie So I just started with Group Policy. Ive enabled a company wide policy, which I applied to the Default Domain Policy GPO. Its pretty basic stuff, a company wallpaper, company screensaver, some IE and Start Menu configurations, Windows Update interval and options, etc...

I was able to connect via PPTP from home without problems. I'll give L2TP a second try today and see what happens. I used PPTP with EAP, User Certificates and 128-encryption. Mac and Windows PCs both connected to the network ok. However, in the Windows PC Network Places is empty. Shouldn't it...

Windows Vista machine can't access shares in the domain

One of the machines (Vista) is in the domain. The Win 7 box is not, but I can access share on all the other servers (after entering user name, domain and password). Yes, I can ping the machines. Latency and/or dropped packets is not the issue. The network type is set as Work.

I just got a Win 7 machine up and running, and this one also is not able to access the shares. It's really strange, this is the only server both machines have problems with. I won't even asks for a password, it just refuses to connect.

I don't have any restriction policies in place. This machine was able to access the share at one point, the problem started a few weeks ago. I don't know what to look for, it's been driving me nuts.

RAID 10 has been working very well so far. I'm thinking about upgrading our oldest server (JBOD) to RAID 10, since I have 4 250GB drives not being used.

I know, and since the move to RAID 10, our users no longer complain about performance. It seems the benchmarks don't really reflect on real world usage. The server doesn't appear to be slow, it's quite snappy actually.

That's great I/O for just two drives! I've just received the two additional SAS drives, so I'll be re-creating the array over the weekend and post back my results. If you could get 225MB/s writes with only two drives, I hope to go beyond 300 using a 3-disk stripe of 10k SAS drives.

Vista PCs not showing up in Network Places under XP

Sorry for the lack of information. We have a Windows 2003 domain and all PCs are part of it. It's just weird that I can't see some Vista machines from XP/2003 but they are visible from Vista/2008

So, If I browse Network Places from an XP or Win 2003 machine, I can 18 computers. If I do the same from a Vista box or from one of our Windows 2008 servers, I can see all 24. What's up with that? Has anyone seen this before?

I've just ordered the drives, but they won't be here for a few days so I'm gonna have to wait to the weekend to set up the RAID 10 array. I've had a few users complaining about access speed with some apps on the server, which I suspect are related to the abysmal write performance.

Yeah, I've been browsing the HP forums for the past few hours trying to find a solution. I'll take a look at the array configuration, maybe there's something wrong there. I remember it was configured at 50% Read 50% Write performance. Changing those settings may have a positive impact.
