Question Firmware updates for Mushkin Pilot NVMe?

I'm having trouble determining if there is a firmware upgrade for the Mushkin Pilot 1TB NVMe SSD (http://www.poweredbymushkin.com/Home/index.php/catalog/solid-state-drives/pilot/item/1372-pilot-1tb-mknssdpl1tb-d8) Their site is a bit of a mess. It's a nice SSD but I've been getting weird...

Question USB-C or not for 27" 4k monitor?

The idea is future-proofing. I don't expect I'll buy another one for many years. Am I thinking too hard about it? And yeah, the premium on them is pretty crazy right now!

Question USB-C or not for 27" 4k monitor?

Thanks for the rec. I wish I could go that big. My desk (which I also can't make bigger because of room constraints) won't fit such a big monitor.

Question USB-C or not for 27" 4k monitor?

My 24" 1080p monitor is badly in need of an upgrade. I'm ready to upgrade to a 27" 4k display. USB-C seems like it could future-proof it for a while (I buy new monitors very rarely -- I've had all of two over the last maybe 17 years?). Worth the trouble of finding one? Thanks, and generally...

Swapping in international keyboard on US Surface Pro?

For my retired dad who travels back and forth to Europe and still writes scholarly articles in multiple languages, the US version of the MS Surface Pro with an extra Spanish (yay Spain) keyboard seems almost too good to be true. The key (no pun intended) being that a Spanish keyboard makes...

Wife going overseas, help me call her for free (or cheap) using our smartphones

Given the URL I have to wonder if it will work with the Storm2. Site's down anyway, but I'll check again later. While on the topic of WiFi, why does it work so poorly with BB?

Wife going overseas, help me call her for free (or cheap) using our smartphones

Well, there goes Google Voice. My phone sometimes thinks it's outside of the US (I'm guessing something to do with the "world phone" nature of it) so I sometimes can't start Skype even while physically in the US. As it happens when I tried to install Google Voice, I received a message saying...

Nope, not for another year, but it this sort of issue may push us in the warm embrace of Android.

Sure, fire away with suggestions. I don't know about apps that allow voice. Fring? I'll give it a look. What about Google Voice? How's that on the Blackberry?

Wife going overseas, help me call her for free (or cheap) using our smartphones

We both have Blackberry Storm2 phones that we've used overseas on Verizon's international data plan to BBM, use Google Maps, etc. What doesn't work (at least in the country to which she is traveling) is Skype Mobile, so Skype-to-Skype is out of of the question. Trying to even start the Skype...

A cyclist ran into my car

My perceptions are probably skewed by a daily bike commute of 25-28 miles round-trip in NYC (mostly in Manhattan, no less) but I have to blame the cyclist in the OP. That situation is quite common and not difficult to navigate. Either the driver will cut you off or not, be ready for both.

Video card for Inspiron 530S? Half-height?

AT delivers yet again, thanks! A little more digging also shows, for example, a rare card that will occupy a second low-pro slot to expose all three outputs (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121310). Lots to choose from with this good info in hand. Thanks again.

Is there such a thing as an adapter from HDMI to DVI? I'm fairly certain that two DVI or VGA cables are involved.

Video card for Inspiron 530S? Half-height?

Thanks for the info, that was very helpful. Quesiton: are there any low-profile ready cards that support both monitor ouputs in the low-profile configuration? The low-pro backplates I see on Newegg clearly DON'T.

Video card for Inspiron 530S? Half-height?

A coworker wants to go to two monitors at home so the onboard video is not gonna cut it. I looked at the original order which had a TV card listed as "half height". Pics of the system make suggest that it's a pretty small case. What is this half-height business and could someone suggest an...

Skype in Iceland on Verizon Blackberry?

That makes sense, but does that mean that the international rate is charged or is it simply minutes? Not everyone I know back home has a smartphone with Skype(!) so Skype-to-Skype isn't always going to be an option.

Skype in Iceland on Verizon Blackberry?

I could swear that I had 3G in spots but it was mostly EDGE coverage. Skype worked out pretty well on EDGE, only having trouble with one call on our last day there. I made a couple of calls from a spot where two tectonic plates meet. Pretty cool. When I tried to call a US number, though...

Skype in Iceland on Verizon Blackberry?

Too bad VOIP isn't going to work with Verizon roaming. We're only going to be there for a few days, though, so it may not be worth the trouble to get a local SIM card (presumably that's the suggestion? pardon my GSM naiveté).

Skype in Iceland on Verizon Blackberry?

According to Verizon's coverage map, there's no 3G there but there is "GSM data". I have a Blackberry Storm2 which has a GSM chip. Anybody know if I'll be able to get Skype to work there on my phone? The Verizon roaming rates in Iceland are ridiculous (> $1/min) and I'd like to be able to...

Who here doesn't own a car?

You are saying that 80 hilly miles per week was tough? YOU? I'm disappointed! Forgot to mention before, in good weather, when not having other commitments that preclude a bike, I usually ride 25-30 miles RT five days per week for my job. Sure, it's not hilly but don't tell me NYC streets...

Who here doesn't own a car?

Never owned a car. Living in NYC makes it easy but I lived in upstate NY for a year without one (+ four more years if you count college). In NYC, there's little incentive for owning a car, and plenty of negatives (ever heard of alternate side parking?). If you need one from time to time, Zip...

Doctor gets 5 years for road rage against cyclists

Ah, that old chestnut. You're ignoring that 1) cyclists are often also drivers, 2) a bike causes far, far less wear and tear to road surfaces, 3) bikes require less room on the road, etc.

The disgusting cost of "cable" (internet/television)

My problem is that the only thing I watch on TV is sports. ESPN, YES (Yankees channel), Versus, etc are only available on I suppose the 2nd tier of TV services. As for 'net access, the only alternative to TimeWarner cable in our building is Verizon DSL, which IME stinks. Competition at its...
