A Little Help Here?

Well what is the MT(Machine Type) number on it. Most of the old IBM PC series used a riser card making using them nearly impossible.

ouch! thats hot!

Get an exhaust fan and ditch the Orb. Chrome Orbs are pretty, and while they can cool a PIII just fine, they lack what it takes for the T'birds.

Your forgetting voltage, which is the big mean gremlin in cooling. When you overclock you up the voltage and with it heat rises. I've tested "AMD Approved" heatsinks rated for 1.5gig.......they didn't cut it on a mere 800mhz T'bird when the voltage is maxxed out. You also need to...

Uh.........no. You?re paying upwards of $170 or more for the cpu but can't spend more than $8 for a heatsink? But to be fair it will do, if you don't play 3 hours of UT, or run SETI/RC5 or other stressing program. I also wouldn't recommend trying to overclock that bad boy with the VolcanoII either.

Coolink Heatsinks. Anyone know anything about them? Dual Heatsinks, 80*60 surface area...

Here is a review of one of them. Blue dual review FWIW the dual looking heatsink is manufactured by Power Cooler in Taiwan. Have no idea about the other two.

Best Heatsink for an T-bird 800mhz?

There are a bunch of good ones, but the best bang for the buck goes to the copper bottom Taisol 760. With the stock fan it should keep your T'bird cool, if your thinking of overclocking opt for the black label Delta fan.

Does anyone have a P3 1G working (not OC'd) in an Abit BX6 rev 2 board ?

PIII 600e set manually in bios to 6x133. Bios says at boot its a PIII 800eb. The latest bios (QR?) should identify the 800's, not sure of the 1giger though.

Something wrong with my voodoo3 3000 *** SOLVED ***

Change any bios settings? Go into the bios and see if you have an option to turn on/off ACPI, if you do turn it on and try again. Older GX1 Dells have that same problem when upgrading to W2k from 95/98, just keeps rebooting over and over and over and over......

Might want to hit it with some clear to keep her from rusting. There is some aluminum color spray paint that would closely match the bare metal color.

Error code beeps..........what are they?

Do you have a fan plugged into fan header 1? If not it will beep at you and shut down, it's part of the safety system built into the bios to keep from burning up your processor.

Power Supplies. Does Brand Name Matter??

CompUSA PS's reliable? Mined died after a month and a half. Go for Enermax, you won't be sorry. I replaced the PS in my Aopen HX08 with the Enermax, Aopen went in the CompUSA case. The Enermax made the Aopen 300W look generic by comparison.

Old Power supply fan

Most of my fans are robbed from old PS's. While robbing old cases pull the cables that go to the MB from the leds and turbos swithces etc. then splice the two pin connectors to the fan, clips right on the MB's fan headers.

Image quality of Geforce MX vs. Voodoo 3 3000

I have both a V3 3k and a retail Hercules Prophet II MX. IMHO the GeForce is hands down the winner. The MX has a much cleaner and brighter display at all resolutions compared to my ol Voodoo.

Try some Q-tips and alcohol, takes a little time and effort but does a nice job.

Changing to a new mobo - how to not have to format?

It can be done, it's best to just wipe it and do a new install but heres an easy way in case you don't want to format. Before you change MB's, boot in safe mode and wipe out everything in Device Manager, shut down, swap boards, then boot and let Windoze find everything.

How high can P3-600 go?

Nope, the processor is multiplier locked, if the Dell can use 133mhz FSB processors then you might be able to boot it as a PIII800eb(6x133)so see if you can change the bus to 133.

Taps for an old warhorse

Well yesterday my old SL2S9 P200mmx that had been happy for years at 250(2.5x100) just refused to work stable. System would lock at different places, sometimes just after logging on. Set it back to 200 and she worked fine. Hmmmmmmm guess she just got tired so I replaced it with a k6-300 that was...

Fried 10 P3 500 MHz Processors

One thing that bothers me is............TEN! I mean one or two I could see, but then most of us would say "WTF" and find out what the problem was before we killed any more defenseless CPU's.

Possible uses for a 286? Are there any?

Last 286 I had was a AMD 286-16mhz, ran Leisure Suit Larry, the original, just fine. Make a good "brain" for a Battle Bot. Could use if for home security with the right sensors and cameras. Or just do Like I did years ago, strip anything useful, fans,screws and such, hang MB on the...

Using 3 to 4 pin adapter on kt7raid, help!

Yes, plug the Delta into Fan header 1. It won't kill the MB, Abit allows for .5A or 6 watts, enough to handle the mighty Delta 38.

Laptop swap floppy/dvd drives.

Most laptops have "hot-swap" for floppy/cd, just follow manufactures instructions. On my IBM 770Z you flip the little lever, wait for windoze to say remove,then swap it out.

Bad airflow in an Aopen HQ08-case...

Get a 92mm or 120mm fan and mount it as the intake on the bottom front of the case. I have a 92mm intake, two 80mm exhaust, and one 80mm mounted on the side blowing towards the cpu. Normal working temps(like while I'm typing this) are MB 23C/73F and cpu 31C/87F. Case temp works out to about two...

Looking for new home inkjet--Lexmark or HP?

You guys need to check out the Lexmark Z52...it will change your mind about Lexmark. If your looking for a cheap(under $200) printer the Z52 would be 1st rate, followed by the HP 932, which is decent but slow in full color.

Geforce 2 MX overclocking results, whats yours?

I stuck a retail 3dProphet in my son's(my old system) PIII. I loaded the reference drivers not the retail Hercules, and manage 210 on gpu, 205 on the ram. Any higher on the ram results in artifacts. I did put an old 486 fan on the HS though.

Cheapest or Easiest way to share one 56k internet connection?

Besides Windoze's ICS there are WinProxy and Proxy+, both are much better, and easier to setup than MS ICS.

generic gateway mother board upgrade help

Abit KT7-Raid won't run !

Well try to reseat the ram. Reseat the video card, some times AGP cards are a bitc# to get installed correctly. If that doesn't do any good, pull the CPU and re-insert it to make sure it is getting good contact.

FOP38 and power consumption

KT7Raid MB fan headers are rated for .5A or 6watt. The killer Delta 38 will work fine on the Abit board.

BX6r2 + Slot 1 Coppermine. Who has one, and is overclocking.

My "lowend" system is a PIII600e on a BX6r2 booting as a PIII800eb. The FSB of 133 is stressing the BX chip a little, but performance is great. Having PC150 ram might help in getting over a FSB of 138, which I could never do stable with my setup. Running the QR(?) bios, the one before...

If going for a every day computer on the cheap it's hard to beat Dells prices on the low end systems.(low end ha......like a PIII700 is already low end) They have a PIII700 with everything for $699

ercid's right, stacking fans wont gain much. I did it with two 80mm's in my case, noise wasn't that much greater. The cooling didn't improve either. Ended up robbing one for another system. Just get a 60x25 and be done with it.

Will 800 P3 with 133 clock work on a bx motherboard?

Probably.....my BX6r2 with the PIII600e booted as a PIII800eb when I set the FSB to 133. Ram speed was great, but beware that some cards may not like the over spec bus speeds that you will get with the BX board. Don't expect to overclock the processor much, as 133 FSB is already overclocking in...

No.......but it's not a bad idea.....but where can I find a 11"x19" peltier...or for that matter a heatsink big enough to fit on that bad boy. :)

How to clean MB residue from system without a format? anyone?

Like groovy say's delete everything out of Device Manager. It's what I did going from a BX6r2 to the setup in my sig. Works fine.
