Acer notebook 11.6" (AMD c-60) $197 from Target

I grabbed one of these for HTPC in bedroom and for travel PC. Debloated the software and it's running great. Plays my 720p mkv files no problems. Great machine for $200 - I'll take this over any ipad/ android pad any day.

What's the point of Cat6 if it only does 1gig like Cat5e?

I just looked and Monoprice does not sell Cat6a cable. You would only need Cat6a cable if you are going to install 10Gb ethernet. I don't know of any motherboards that have 10Gb NICs and stand alone 10gb RJ45 NIC cards are over $500. To the original posters question - What's the point of...

Asus support

I posted this because it seems to me Asus puts a premium on their motherboards compared to other manufacturers. Sometimes I will pay a premium for a one brand over another when I know that brand has good products and good support. Asus, for me, is no longer a brand I will pay a premium for.

Corsair 4GB Twin2X4096-6400C5 DDR2 800 $59.99 AR @ Microcenter

I have this Ram, the c5 version version 2gb sticks. It works great at specs at 1.8V. It will not overclock at all, regardless of voltage. Corsair has made this Ram with different memory modules. Some do overclock, but others like mine do not.

Best value/performance 965 Board (and memory)

Biostar 965PT; $105 at newegg. It uses a Via IDE chip, which does not have the issues the JMicron IDE with the other boards on your list. It will also boot from SATA device.

Does the biostar TForce 965 have/need a vista 64 bit driver

I have loaded both the 64 and 32 bit versions of Vista Business on this board. Vista loaded all the required drivers automatically.

WinXP --> Vista Overclocking

My overclocked E6300 system is ortho, prime and memtest rock solid stable in XP, but it will not boot into Vista without lowering my overclock settings. This is probably a driver issue. My solution has been so far to stay with XP.

Best Memory for this setup

With this setup and targeting 2.8, you need DDR2 800 (PC6400) rated ram. The e6300 has a 7x multiplier, so you will run at 7*400 Mhz to hit 2.8 and this equates to DDR2 800 speed ram.

Overclocking and Vista - works on XP, not on Vista

While Vista is starting, it has a a bar in lower portion of screen that flashes while OS is loading. When system is overclocked, it does not get past this, instead it reboots back to bios.

I had said that I lowered settings to install Vista. I lowered back down to stock. I am now booting with Overclocked settings and can select to boot into XP or Vista. Why do overclock settings work great with XP and will not boot Vista?

Biostar TForce P965 Deluxe

The egg has non-deluxe model: Biostar P965 I have this board (very solid). The big difference is the 4 SATA vs. 6 SATA on the Deluxe. I flashed mine with the Deluxe bios; they are interchangable. I searched for the Deluxe and never saw it for sales here in the US a month ago.

I don't think motherboard censor is really correct; it shows sytem case temp at 40 C, and I know it really is around 24 C.

I ordered retail 148 from Mwave on 12-01. Received a CABYE 0543; using water cooling, bump volt .025, prime 95 stable at 2904 MHz. After running Prime for 5 hours, temp is 52 C.

Netbeui and gigabit

I use Netbeui for small home network. I have installed Airlink+ brand Gigabit nics (no jumbo frame support) with an Airlink Gigabit Switch ($20 at Frys). It works fine over Netbeui. For what it is worth, my throughput tests show speeds around 80 Mbps on file transfers between computers.

I just bought a tritton nas 120 (frys - 229 less 100 rebate). I set it up, but am unable to see as network drive. I can ping it and link lights are working. Manual is terrible.

Well, bye to At&T wireless eventually....... At&t may take 3-4 weeks to complete port, in which time you are paying for both services. I just ported my wife's number from Verizon to Tmobile yesterday and they are saying 5-7 days. Porting is not working out like the FCC wanted; 24-48 hours.
