My computer just died--Help me build a NEW one!

If you're on a budget.. I'll just stop with the AMD since you know it's cheaper. But RDRAM costs out the a$$. 500 is about right, the only decent P4 boards right now are 850's which cost too much, and use RDRAM. I just had a 256 stick delivered for $95. That's a pain when everyone else is...

I need to convert MP3s to WAVs - any suggestions?

Winamp? It makes great sounding .wav's .. also there are many free plugins available if you want to alter your files. It's all I've ever used so this is just my opinion.. Oh yes, it sounds better than the EasyCD discs :)

Best Motherboard for AMD Duron/Thunderbird?

ECS K7S5A. It's not up to the performance of the Epox the gentlemen above listed, but isn't a lot behind. And for the purposes you listed, will do just great. It isn't an overclocker, but supports the newest Athlons, DDR, and best of all is DIRT cheap. Around $60. Don't let the cheap price...

DVD Drive (Black?)

Thanks for the reply, Yield, I'm not sure about the case but I honestly doubt it. Anyone know anything more about this the first entry? I suppose it's just black in color, also reliability of the site and is software necessary/included (she has a P4, would Windows Media Player do it well...

DVD Drive (Black?)

Thinking of an early Christmas present for my girlfriend. She has a Dell 8100 (Black case) and I was hoping to hear what you guys recommend in a DVD drive. Is it worth looking for a black drive or should I just get a 16X Pioneer or Lite On in Standard Beige? I think I remember a Pioneer model...

What's better 384 sdram or 256 ddr?

I would have to say DDR. You afterall bought a DDR capable board? Especially with the current state of memory prices. Dump in a stick of Crucial 256 or two and be on your way.

But, I should be able to add a stick of different size (and speed since 800 is cheaper today anyhow)? I believe you're right.. it would run at 700. Should I put the 256 stick in bank 0 or 1?

Adding RAM to my PIII, RD system

I'm one of the lucky few (haha) to be stuck with a Dell P3 and it's RDRAM. I only have 128 right now, and with the low prices was thinking of bumping it up. I realize memory for the P4 has to be bought in pairs- but what about for my i820? Also, I believe Dell stuck in a stick of Samsung...
