    Not true. I've installed Windows 7 from a retail DVD and then activated with an OEM key. The only hang up is that it didn't activate online but I had to call the automated phone number to activate. Otherwise it works fine. I've done this twice for two different systems, two different keys.

    Battery life isn't really that important to me. My previous laptop had a Pentium M processor and a huge 6 hour batt but the batt lost its capacity pretty quickly so for most of its life I was plugging it in as it only lasted 30 min at the end. I'm kind of used to it now.

    Granted, Windows has gone through some crazy iterations. Millennium is closer to a Chevy Nova. Windows XP would be a pickup truck. IE, the workhorse for a lot of business desktops and consumer PCs. Early Linux would be a car in a box. Ubuntu would be closer to the pic in the OP. ;)
