No overclocking.
Had the chip from new..quite a while really.
I build pooters for folk so it really is a case of "the Cobblers children poorest shod"
Imagine F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone driving a 1999 Fiat !
I can have a new machine but I would really like to know the reason this is playing up...

Thank you for a clear and lucid explanation.
What you say makes total sense.
The writer of the article I referred to indicated that he and his chums were
actually getting results from their activities.
It was probably on some o/cing site elsewhere.
I will retrace my "History" to see if I can...
Last week I found an article which indicates that faster speeds can be obtained using external modems.
I have lost the link so this is the outline of what I recall.
If you have any input please advise.
It seems that some "External Modems" have a larger/faster processor chip than the "Internal"...
Downloaded the bios update 1002.001 beta ( from the large thread still running) and applied it ok.
Did'nt boot the system as yet so I try ASUS direct and download their own 1002..(not sure what flavour)
The zip will not unzip via winzip ?
Ditto with the nf2v1.116.wxp.
I now read in these...
The saga of this m/bd is on the m/bd section. I did not want to put this query on the same thread as I hoped that
the m/bd is now solved........maybe not eh ?
Briefly...the m/bds were sent out with bios batteries at 2.8v which would not allow booting out of bios set up.
Then the bios 1001G...
Just been through the current nightmare of upgrading bios and battery etc for this "State of the Art" m/bd. ?
Put XP Pro on a new Western Digital via another rig.
Removed jumper pin on HDD and the system boots to ask which way I would like to start the system.
Tried them all and none work.

Thanks for all advice so far.
Finally put the bios update in.....1002.001 beta. The cursor in the "FilenameBox"was not at the beginning
of the box and having become "eyeball glazed" after too long at the screen failed to spot this until the
following day! Thats why I cold not type in the...
Thanks .
My fuller reply is below or above this one.
Have been downloading more stuff from the ASUS site.
Signed up and registered with them.
Surprised that the customer satisfaction indicator only go's
down to 60% !!!
Cheers
Thanks.
The file name would only take 4 letters or digits.
Unzipped the file just read 1002.001 , so would only take digits 1002.
What sort of entry should it look like........ when I finally get a good bios copy.
When I took the master jumper pin from the WD400 and booted after the battery...
Many thanks so far.
Battery was at 2.80 Maxwell replaced with 3.20.
WESTERN Digital WD400 loaded with XP Pro fails to boot with or without jumper set to slave.
ATA 100 and ATA 133 Round cables have been tried .
Bios 1002.001 has been tried against the 1001G and failed to load. (have downloaded...
Thanks for the advice.
Wish I had known about the 2200 being already unlocked.
As I am expecting delivery today .......Mon 20th ......its a bit late to upgrade to the 2200.
The plan is to get the system up and running and proceed to the 2800 and upwards when
they drop in price.......hence the...
I will be starting to build this outfit next week and would appreciate any helpful pointers as to the best settings.
The cpu will be cooled via a Coolermaster X Dream HAC-V81 which has variable rpm adjustment.
The board will do 133/266/333 fsb.
Not yet sure what memory would be most useful.
Is...
Just put on the "Go 3" facility to my 98SE.
Thought that it was a reasonable thing to do as it comes with ME and XP as standard kit.
Within 3 days I have had to use the the facility to "go back" to start my machine !
In the past this type of need to use a facility soon after installation has...
Thanks for the link. I have passed it on to a pal with a degree in electronics.
He can explain it to me at the weekend.....I hope!
So the "gubbins inside " is a bit rare it seems and you could buy a farm in Bongoland
for about the same price.:)
It's sounding to me that I need to be very rich to play with one of these projectors. LOL
I still havent heard what the "inards" consist of to get up to these outrageous prices.
$16000.......$35,999.... dollars......how much do you pay Chevvy ?:Q
You are really blowing my mind ! $16000 dollars for a projector ?
We are all in the wrong game I'am thinking.
Living in a very small fishing village in Cornwall UK, our nurses would like that sort of money......
every year !!!!
We have two 35mm slide projectors at home and they cost about £50....$75 over ten years ago.
So what is there in these newfangled projectors that takes us into the thousands of Pounds or Dollars range?
You need a lens ok, you need a bulb ok, you need apower supply ok. Some sort of gizmo to link...
Thanks for the reply.
The FCC site indicates that the manufacturer is not required to put an FCC identifier on the equiptment.
It has the CE FCC logo and they seem to be able to "self certify" the item as ok to use.

Sometime back I had a link to identifying the manufacturer of kit via the numbers on the kit.
Like I had a modem which needed a flash upgrade and traced the modem to Taiwan and a manufacturer who
could provide the info and flash update. This was some years ago and I cannot find the link/method...
I have a "Hi-Val 24x2x2" it just about works.Made in a shed in Taiwan I think.
My lady has a Ricoh MP9120a-DP with DVD as well as the usual "burnproof" stuff.
Plenty fast enough for all usual needs and saves a slot.
The use of silver is obviously an old method of producing a bond to direct the heat away from a chip.
What is needed is some of my own substance "Sub-Antartic IV Gold".
If you cannot buy this locally....you can make it up for your self.
Buy a Gold bar from your local Fort Knox dealer and grind...
There was a very extensive article I saw a few days ago on a patch to "Toms Hardware" site.
The soldering and general surgical precision is not for the poor or fainthearted though.
If you can perform micro surgery on your own give it a whirl I say.
Many thank for the info guys.
I seem to have muddled myself with quoting the motherboard voltage....sorry.
The Dell info was certainly an adventure. The links took me on a cosmic tour of some really
wild Japanese o/cers.
One thing has worried me a bit. I assumed that all "Slocket" gizmos were...
Thanks. The Slot 1 is on the motherboard. The 370 converter gos into the slot vacated by the outgoing 400P11 cpu.
Maybe we are just saying the same in different ways.
Do I gather you have o/cd a 566 to achieve this performance and is it a Celeron?
Looking at chips for sale there seems to be a...

My board has a P11 400 and its in a BX440SE which only covers 3.3v m/b supply.
Are you sure your m/b can go to a lower core voltage for the proposed P111 chip?
This has left me with the 370/Slot 1 converter route to get past the P11 500/550?
and that with a bios flash upgrade to achieve it...
I know it is a bit slow for some of you but the upgrade on a BX440 1998 motherboard is a bit limited.
This is with a 100mhz fsb @ 3.3v and 394 ram
I would like to know how far I can upgrade the 370 chip in this contraption.
I would prefer to use P111 non Celeron chip.
I understand that the...

I fully agree with "Bozz" that if you do not have any training in high voltage CRT assembly......."KEEP OUT".
Some of the capacitors in circuits can retain a very large proportion of their charge for a very long time.

Had the same problem.
Had a partition set aside for the XP pro to check it out.
Went through all the install and converted the partition to NTFS.
At finish the system was short of 40 files and a nice new "Blue Screen of Death" was the only thing showing.
It did give some help though....it...
"Change" is the "Primary Manifestation of Time" , this is a fact of Axiomatic observation.

For time to pass, there must therefore be an...
Yeah ! Maybe I should be doing other things like Linux, but I need to know how to run the XP thing in order to help
my local folk who are or will be going the XP route.

The rest who are Apple/Mac folk are mainl'ly...
98SE on first partition of HDD. Booted with XP Pro and went through install..missed some files during install.

The disk is partitioned with 98SE on C drive. D drive is sitting there waiting for use.
I want to put XP Pro on and play about with it before deciding to say goodbye to 98...or not !
The partition was done when I last fdisked just using the fdisk.exe
If that can work with putting on the XP ,I...
