So I lost an important drive today. It's not backed up. :( I have been meaning to set up CrashPlan on this computer since I moved it to Linux but that never happened.
The drive was mounted on a Ubuntu box, it's a 500GB Seagate HDD. Pretty old. So the problem is that the drive is no longer...
So if the other APs have the same wifi config it won't confuse my devices or cause other issues? Any recommendations on a good one which isn't too expensive? I saw amazon has a Ubiquiti networks "enterprise" AP for around $60.
The layout: Fiber comes into the garage, then goes through my router to a switch in the garage, which sends Cat6 to the rest of the house.
The problem: Router is in my garage and signal on the other end of the house is very poor. Basement also has poor signal.
I have a Linksys E4200. It has...
I really like the WD TV. I might build a HTPC with a CableCARD tuner in it so I can record shows and hopefully stream them out via DLNA. I think with Netflix + DLNA I should be covered for the near future.
TBH, it sounds like the Boxee is more flexible than a PS3. I have a PS3 already and getting video to work over DLNA has been a tiresome affair and I've pretty much given up on it.
I don't really have a desire to stream files over the network right now, but maybe in the future. But honestly, I...
We are getting another TV for the playroom and I was wondering what are the cheapest / best options for getting Netflix onto the TV. The two I know of right now are Roku or maybe a Blu-Ray player. How does Netflix on a Blu-Ray player or Roku compare to Netflix on my PS3?
Will a Blu-Ray...
I updated to a 600w power supply, and that didn't help. I ended up replacing the motherboard and memory a couple of days ago and it has been pretty solid so far. I think it was a bad motherboard.
Drivers are all up to date. It happened again today. I was getting some stuttering of audio during gameplay and I was terrified it was going to crash. Lo and behold, once the game was over it crashed out to Windows.
Video card temps are maxing out at 59 C.
I'm really starting to think it's...
My computer is crashing when playing SC2. The problem has only shown up since I got my new video card, but I am not sure if the video card is the culprit or not. I used to get BSOD but recently it's just been SC2 crashes while the rest of the system stays up. I think I accidentally dislodged the...
My computer was crashing intermittently while playing SC2. I narrowed it down to the PSU and have just installed a new one. I would like to maximize the load on my CPU / GPU / PSU to make sure everything is working well. Can anyone recommend some free software?
Thanks!
Scandisk says 170GB are being used on my hard drive. I can't find 50 of it...Windirstat says that all the files on my drive are only occupying 120GB. Any suggestions on how I can find where this missing 50GB has gone?
e: I am using Win7 Pro if that helps
I changed it from IDE to AHCI and Windows is still working fine. The hot swapping seems to be working too. Thanks, I would never have figured that out myself...
Well, I didn't know where to post this so I guess this is a good place. I have an Asus M4A785-M motherboard with an eSATA adapter connect to internal SATA port. OS is Windows 7 Home Premium x64. When I plug in my eSATA drive while the computer is on, Windows is not recognizing it, but if I boot...
Ehh, this looks like it fixed it:

All of a sudden on my wife's Windows 7 account, iTunes has associated itself with all the .lnk files. So basically any time she tries to open a shortcut, iTunes opens instead.
When I uninstall iTunes everything goes back to normal, but as soon as I install it again the same thing happens. I...
I'm surprised that it doesn't...I would think that an eSATA drive should have standard drivers just like a USB drive works universally. Maybe it's only a problem with that manufacturer?
It seems like the performance benefits are negligible for what I am doing. I bet Win7 supports it out of the box, but if not I will just keep it in IDE mode.
Actually, after some research, no it's not that simple in WinXP.
No, really? I would never have thunk it...after building systems for myself and friends for over 10 years I didn't realize that.
It just seems odd that it's not even mentioned in the manual. Of course, motherboard manuals...
Thanks for the tip. WinXP wouldn't boot once I turned it on though. I think I'll just wait until I get Win7 next week.
That is so unintuitive though; how is someone supposed to know that?
Well, I got the system up and running today. I am pretty happy with the case. It's a little large (there isn't really anything "micro" about MicroATX), but that's ok. I love the way it looks. It's pretty quiet. It's not silent, but the only sounds I hear are a slight whooshing of air, a very...
I just installed a new 785G motherboard on WinXP, but I'm not sure if my SATA drivers got installed properly. Under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, this is what I am seeing:
- Primary IDE Channel
- Primary IDE Channel
- Secondary IDE Channel
- Secondary IDE Channel
- Standard Dual Channel PCI...
Ahh. I was reading the newegg reviews for the PC-V351B and there wasn't a single mention of being noisy, a lot of people saying it is quiet / silent etc. So hopefully it will do me well. :)
My system setup is really mild so I can probably get away with turning off a front fan and also...
Which Lian Li cases have you used? The ones I am looking at are all getting really good customer reviews on the quiet front. Unfortunately, professional reviews aren't as prevalent. I think Antec has a department dedicated to sending cases out for review or something. :)
Well I really love this Lian Li cube and I think I can manage to fit it on the shelf next to my desk, but just barely.

Thanks for pointing me towards LL...probably going to get that...if not that, the A05NB. I think I need to shop...
You know, I don't understand what newegg calls mini atx vs mid atx.
This case is smaller, but is called mid: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811112220
This case is larger in every dimension but is called mini: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811112218
Yeah I would like to have a computer that I can put on the floor if I need to...also not really feeling the fragile base. Don't really like the looks either. Thanks for the suggestion tho...definitely an interesting design.
but damn, it's cheap...$65 and it includes a seasonic PSU? The case...
Umm, posting this again because it ended up before your post. I think Anandtech needs to sync their system clocks.
I didn't realize there was a fan there. Can't see it in the newegg photos. I think I will probably go with the Lian Li then. It's a little deep but I think I can get it to fit on...
Ooh, ok. I didn't realize there was a fan there. Can't see it in the newegg photos. I think I will probably go with the Lian Li then. It's a little deep but I think I can get it to fit on my printer table.
wtf how did this end up before your post?
