    winXP without sp1 has a maximum partition size of 137GB. you have three choices: 1) create partitions smaller than this 2) do 1) and then resize them after you install SP1 3) slipstream SP1. go ask google how to do it. :)

    SPCR is an excellent ref. check out the Antec SLK-3700AMB. it's very popular because it's got 120mm case fans that you can turn waaaay down, and it's got rubber grommets for the 3.5" drives. it's a lot cheaper than the sonata. you might also check these cases and if cost isn't a problem...

    i'm in the same boat, except i'm driving mine and not flying it. and i'm still removing the HS. motherboards should not be subject to that much torque. of course, i have a zm80a-hp on my 9800 pro, which absoulutely has to come out, so taking the system whole isn't an option anyhow.

    it's pretty good for lcds, esp considering free shipping and no tax for most people. the only thing i have to say about 17", 18" 19": they almost all have native resolution 1280x1024. getting a 19" over a 17" just makes your pixels larger, it doesn't give you any more screen real estate. maybe...

    That's true, however, depending on your router setup you may not be able to get that to go. The easiest way to do it for sure would be to use ssh and have ssh tunnel the x sessions. In this case, there's no need to set DISPLAY - just ssh in and fire up an x-app. It should pop up on the x-server.

    Does partition placement affect performance?

    yes, partition placement does affect performance. a drive will be faster when reading and writing to/from the inside portion of the platter. Whatever you've got on the innermost portion of the platter will be read/written the fastest. But it's a fairly minor point.

    it'd help a lot to get the beep codes. otherwise it's just guess work. you might start punching in motherboard serial and part numbers in google - that may get you the manufacturer and model. and if you want to just stick with the guess work, resetting the bios may help.

    That's not entirely true. There is unbreakable encryption, it just doesn't have the convenience that you're used to with public-key cryptography. Look into the one-time pad. Without the pad, it is unbreakable. Of course, you must exchange the pad beforehand, and it must only be used once.
