    Probably a dead floppy drive. $11.50 at Newegg and all your problems will go away. If Knoppix or a Bart's Boot disk don't read a floppy, then it ain't a Windows problem, just like tyanni said.

    Unplug all the peripherals and try starting. A friend has a USB printer that causes the same type of lockup. If that doesn't work start removing parts and reseating them. Also try plugging/unplugging both hd's and booting from a boot disk (Bart's, Ubuntu, floppy, etc.) just to see if it will run.

    Right click on any shortcut you want to speed up and select properties. Look in the Target. At the very end of this add /prefetch:1 to it. This will load the application into your ram for faster startup times. Note: may not work for all programs.
