Anyone heard of DashToolz and/or Dash PO?

I'm wondering if anyone out there has any experience with or knowledge of either of these: DashToolz or DashPO They both look over-hyped and somewhat fishy to me. I wouldn't feel comfortable using them, but maybe my "judging the book by its cover" mechanism needs to be overruled? I've been...

Bored? Using linux (or Windows)? Want to try something new?

Want to try a different kind of IM service? One that's encrypted, fast, small and works? One that works just the same on linux and Windows, but is not written in pokey Java? One that's adfree, spyfree, spamfree? This software is still being expanded and we want as much user feedback as we...

Linux/Windows/Mac cross-compatible IM goes alpha, try it?

Over a year ago I first posted about BitWise Chat, a fast & small IM service. Over a year later, it's now more featured than ever and has just released new Linux and Windows versions with a fresh interface and many new features (although it's not done yet, it is functional). The BitWise Alpha...

    MSN messanger and Linksys Router

do what I tell everyone who has trouble sending files with the big IM clients: try BitWise Chat, which not only seems to be much better about sending files, but also compresses and encrypts them for you on the fly. :)

Cross-Platform secure IM Project with wxWindows: Idea-Gathering Stage, looking specifically for linux input

Well that's a start, I guess. ;) Any ideas for other hangouts that would also be receptive?

Cross-Platform secure IM Project with wxWindows: Idea-Gathering Stage, looking specifically for linux input

A lot of IM services claim to be cross-platform, but most of the non-Windows clients are pretty bad, and they definitely are not consistent with the Windows version in terms of having the same features and interface. We now plan to change all that. Beginning soon, BitWise Chat (which has been...

Cross-Platform secure IM Project with wxWindows: Idea-Gathering Stage, invitation for your opinions

Somewhat familiar with the command prompt, but GUI development is way outside of my league. It will certainly be coming a part of my league in the future. ;) Do you have any ideas of other forums or sources for people that might be interested in helping. This obviously isn't working out so well.

Cross-Platform secure IM Project with wxWindows: Idea-Gathering Stage, invitation for your opinions

hehe I was just poking fun with the wannabe nerds statement. ;) Well, BitWise itself is very much a real product, it's the cross-platform aspect that is new in the last couple of weeks. :) We're just trying to get all the ideas that we can, if we're gonna rebuild the client, we may as well...

Cross-Platform secure IM Project with wxWindows: Idea-Gathering Stage, invitation for your opinions

The Python library is also very nice from what I hear. Why you so surprised to hear about wxWindows here? I would think with all the wanna-be nerds around here that it would be mentioned! ;) j/k I would certainly welcome your help. Thanks. :)

Cross-Platform secure IM Project with wxWindows: Idea-Gathering Stage, invitation for your opinions

<Tongue in cheek>Hello loyal supporters</Tongue in cheek> Some of you may be familiar with my project of the past year or so, BitWise Chat. Well, it's about to change in a radical way. A lot of IM services claim to be cross-platform, but most of the non-Windows clients are pretty bad, and...

    MSN through Linksys Firewall

This is a little off-topic, but not too badly... some people who are frustrated with getting file transfers to work in MSN have had good luck getting them to work in BitWise Chat, especially with your user-configurable firewalls. Everything is encrypted, compressed, and done with direct...

MSN MESSENGER 5.0 - Renaming Contact

Isn't this one of those features that should be mandatory? Heck, even BitWise Chat supports that... not that I would know anything about that, of course. ;) Why a service would allow multiple names the same and then not give a way to differentiate them is beyond me.

    msn messenger alternatives

You can try BitWise Chat, if your firewall allows outgoing connections it can work... or, if not, you can always set up a buddy list from home and then message them from the website. It's not necessairly elegant but it may be worth a shot.

Anyone have a good timeline / case history for everything regarding MS vs Sun over Java?

I'm trying to put together a presentation for my Ethics class about the whole Microsoft vs. Sun thing, and I've found a ton of articles about small snapshots of the ongoing battle, but I can't seem to find many good sources that give a more complete picture of what's happened. Does anyone know...

Which instant messaging software (and version)do you prefer?

I only post cause it just happened again, but Trillian just crashed. That is fairly not cool with open convos and whatnot... and all I did was double-click on someone's name! Or maybe that's a "feature..." I'd rather have stability than most of the extra stuff they have that I never use.

Thanks. Unfortunately, church budgets don't allow for such experimentation. :(

Which instant messaging software (and version)do you prefer?

aswedc--their site has given that attitude for a while. I think that they've lost focus on the cause that they started now that they want everybody to pay in. I just wonder how long that's going to work.

Wireless setup through cinder block walls--signal loss likely? Will it work?

I am going to betting up a network in our church, and am currently debating between wired and wireless. What worries me is the cinder block construction of our church. Will wireless signals be able to make it through the cinder block walls? Some signals may have to go 40 feet or so through 3...

Which instant messaging software (and version)do you prefer?

Only thing I notice about Trillian Pro is that it can pull in the message history when you open a conversation, making it easier to remember what you last talked about. And it has more plugins. Not much other than that that affects me.

Which instant messaging software (and version)do you prefer?

BitWise Chat! Of course, I guess I'm biased. ;) Plus it can send files faster than most and can get around some router problems that hang up the other, especially MSN... the whole thing grew out of frustration with the existing ones so we've tried to get around the annoyances of them. ;)

Rant: Why can't I do file transfers through AIM with router?

I'll risk of the spam accusation. Users on BitWise Chat seem to have better luck with file transfers, even with routers, than the bug guys... worth a shot, anyway.

File Transfer and AIM, any way to get around the firewall errors?

File transfers seem to be really quirky creatures on all the major IM networks. If you're having troubles with file tranfers, I'd like to suggest trying BitWise Chat. Not only can it get around one end or the other having a router or firewall, it can send files to users behind a common...

VMWare clock randomly & briefly resetting--help!?

When in VMWare, with the time set correctly, VMWare resets each of the children OSs clocks every 30 seconds to a time, some random amount of the official VMware clock. Usually an offset of exactly four hours. The offset is almost always exactlyfour hours slow. Time synchronization is already...

If there was a fully-functional cross-platform secure IM, would you use it? What would it be?

Thanks for the note about the Yahoo client. I still know people who don't like Yahoo just because it's Yahoo, though. ;) Give the US time, in 4 years or so it'll come around. :-P No I don't know that, I'm just poking fun at my own government and thier lag behind the times. dabuddha, thanks...

If there was a fully-functional cross-platform secure IM, would you use it? What would it be?

What program do you use for linux emulation? This is why we started write this program... we didn't like the existing ones. :-P It's a good reason to program--to make programs you really want to use.

If there was a fully-functional cross-platform secure IM, would you use it? What would it be?

Not a linux program? Emulation rocks? I have to say that confuses me a bit. If you can code cross-platform in Python or something else, why not? US developers can distribute higher encryption if they control who they give it to. And how hard is it to find an offshore server, anyway...

If there was a fully-functional cross-platform secure IM, would you use it? What would it be?

Yes, but there is no consistent AIM client across multiple platforms. Clients exist that connect to AIM, but they all look & feel different. Think unified.

OK, so looking at my sig gives away my motives here. But several people have told me that if a 'nix port existed for my BitWise client, that they would use it in a heartbeat. Does anyone have any thoughts on cross-platform IM? What would you want from cross-platform IM? Or does it already...

So computer science majors, what's gonna happen in the industry?

Hmm, the Computer Science and Systems Analysis majors from Miami U. in Oxford, OH, where I go, are often in demand and are heavily recruited.
