CPU temps (Athlon XP)

I would think anything 55c or lower is ok for an AMD. However, with my experience, I've found that the cooler your cpu, the more stable your system is, even if the cpu is in "acceptable" ranges. I had an overclocked p3 for a long time and if the temp was 45c or lower it was alway rock...

That is really strange becuase if you follow the right prompts booting from the XP cd it should give you the option to format the partition. i cant remember the exact options to follow but it should be easy., if worst come to worst you can just use partition magic to rearrange stuff like you...

If you'd rather have it on the 20 gig and dont mind losing anything thats on the 20gig, just boot from the XP cdrom and use the built in utility to delete the 20gig HD partition and format it in NTFS.. then you have a fresh install of XP on the 20gig.. The XP cd SHOULD give you the option to...

Its under network/properties/advanced.. On the corporate version it was disabled by default. not sure about home version it only blocks inbound traffic, not outbound. I use sygate firewall for XP it works great

Yes i tried the pentium3 patch.. it did nothing.. This appears to be some sort of issue with XP trying to recognize an avi file that is incomplete.. since the file is incomplete and cant be opened, it freaks XP out if you try to check the properties of it.. what i do to work around this is just...

I've had the same thing happen with a couple apps.. one is explorer exe when trying to view properties on big divx file and another was running norton 2002 antivirus in regular protect mode.. never found a fix just worked around it

I'm not aware of an integrated ftp server with XP.. i'm using corporate.. I use ServU ver 2.5e it works great for all my needs and you can throttle the bandwidth when people are leeching and you want to play online games;)

AGP questions!!!

I would go with a Geforce 2 GTS(can get for as low as 120bucks) or maybe even a Geforce 3 Ti 200 (as low as 180) Both will be limited slightly by the 1X bandwidth(probably around 10-20% performance decrease) but they will still run fast and be a nice upgrade

WTF? where did you here that? No support for open gl? lol.. i've run at least 4 open gl games in XP just fine. In most cases, XP runs them as good or faster than win2k or 98
