Not a movie buff...so why DVD?

I'm with you brother. IMHO having a DVD is something I'll never use. There seems to be no software that I need that's released on a DVD. I always get a chuckle when I get somebody that watches a movie on their 19" monitor :confused:

Which hard drive would you keep as a backup?

OK...we are talking about at least >> 180 << gigs of storage here right? Go with the 60 gig as your "backup" and build another system with the 80. If all the 80 gig would do is store your movies and MP3s then why the need for a faster drive?

Cable less secure than DSL? I believe so!

I would just stick that cable modem in a closet or someplace where you can't see because all this anxiety you have about "activity lights" is something you don't need to worry about. Don't be so paranoid...they're not going to get in. And even if "they" get in what are they going to find?

Are there any service packs or updates that will make Windows 98 somewhat stable?

If you're doing FRESH installs of Win98 and you still get these major reliability problems then I don't think you'll find the salvo in any service pack or patch. I would start looking at your hardware for potential trouble. Despite all the pessimists that are quick to think win98 is the root...

win 98 task manager question- how to ID programs

What I always do to find out what some of these more cryptic file or process names relate to is take it and type into a google search. This will give me links that I can use to either tell me exactly or at least narrow it down to a certain program. As for spy ware, go and download Ad-Aware...

What is the Audio Cable on the back of the CD/DVD/CDRW drive used for?

Do a Pricewatch for SX830 and at the top of the list you'll find a couple places that sell em for $65 + ~$20 shipping. I've used EMS before no probs. The 830 is a nice size case that's not too HUGE and will fit all the stuff you want. you'll get the solid Antec construction and an approved...

Right fan for an AMD XP 1800+?

Seems like all the heat once associated wih this board has faded. I myself have never had a problem with any of the K7S5As that I used...it's still the best bang for the buck board available...even if you need to RMA it for a differnet one. Get the system running and the thing will F L Y ! ! !

Please Help "Data error reading drive C"

Maybe before you try your re-install boot off the win98 boot disk again and try a scandisk C: /surface - This will do a surface scan of the hard drive and I would bet the farm that it will come back with at least a few of those dreaded red X's...if it even get's that far. Good thing about this...

Please Help "Data error reading drive C"

The hard drive has gone/is going bad. The software install was purely coincidental. This error is generated when the disk just can't physically pick up the data off the drive because of bad sectors etc. It might appear that you can read the disk from DOS but if you read it ALL then eventually...

OMG! newegg is the best!

I am always AMAZED at how quickly I get my Newegg gear! It's more often than not that I'll order something on Thursday of Friday and have the Fedex guy ringing my doorbell on Monday morning. All of this happening from Newegg in CA to my doorstep in FL....zowie! Well done Newegg!

im reformatting my comp, typed setup.exe and it says"this program cant be run in DOS mode"

You need to run winnt.exe from the command prompt....or.....boot from the CDrom and voila`....
