Guess I was wrong, after reading Hardware Review's (the only site that does real Divx benching) A64 FX 51 review (link) a A64 might be in my future :)

I doubt Kyle's jump to aid Ryan was to stop "big dogs like THG from bully others". He did it because he can't stand THG. It started when Tomas said tech sites shouldn't stop publishing in the wake of 9-11. For some reason this pissed Kyle off so he banned linking to THG in the HardOCP fourms...

I wanna record TV shows to DVD.

Just get a cheap tv card and capture straight to MPEG1, it will look like crap but there's no conversion crap to mess with. If you want quality your gonna have to mess with "conversion crap" unless you hack a Tivo/Replay TV.

Why is Apple only giving a 5600 FX card with a $3000 system?

Apple doesn't sell CRT monitors anymore so a nVida 5200 or ATI 9600 will look just as good as any Matrox card when attached to a LCD. Also why ship machines with a gaming gfx card when there's 10 games at most that will uses them?

Dualie AMD or just a fast P4

If you uses the crappy settings and apps Anand and Tom use in there benchmarks (no resize filiter and Xmpeg) then a P4 is faster BUT if you use Vdub/Avisynth (like GGabus does) and a bicubic resize filiter a dual MP system is faster. Check out HardwareReview's 2600MP review (link, scroll done...

Name your favorite/best P4 compatible Dual Channel DDR Motherboard and/or favorite RDRAM board.

My fav RDRAM board is the Abit TH7II-R. I'm on my third cpu with this board(I've had a 1.5GHz, a 1.8AGHz and now a 2.6GHz), its performance is still neck and neck with i875 and e7205 boards , and its great overclocking board.

SSE2 makes Opterons slower than Athlon XPs

This guys numbers seem funny, I've never seen a AMD processor (of any kind) hang with a P4 in Divx/Xvid encoding. In Anand's tests a 1.8GHz Opteron did 69.5fps when encoding using Divx5 (link) and a 2.8GHz P4 did 80.5fps (link).

P3 Faster then P4???

A P3 is probably faster then a P4 of the same speed on old non-SSE2 enhanced code. But if the app has any SSE2 code the P4 will smack the P3 silly.

Your video card is fine for todays game so I would just get a new motherboard and processor. With $300 I would get you the following parts from NewEgg: Gigabyte GA-8SQ800 motherboard 2.53GHz Pentium 4 The above parts plus what you already have will make a nice comp.

Yes, PC's are faster at encoding video than Mac but the video editing software your forced to use on those fast PC's sucks when compared to iMovie or Final Cut Pro. I do all my video editing on a dual 450 PowerMac running Final Cut Pro but I encoded the video on my dual Xeon rig.

Asus P4T533 with RDRAM 4200 (32-bit) - The right technology now?

The P4T533(the 32bit one)is the better overclocker of the two boards. The P4T533 has a AGP/PCI lock that the P4T533-C lacks and it has bus speeds above 150mhz unlike the P4T533-C. If you want to overclock using RDRAM the P4T533 is the bosrd to get.

IWILL P4GB Motherboard Questions?

1. The P4GB has 5 PCI slots(just like the P4G8X and 8INXP), onboard Gigabit ethernet(like the P4G8X and 8INXP), onboard Firewire(like the P4GBX) and onboard audio(like the P4G8X and 8INXP). What it doesn't have that the other two boards have is Serial ATA support, RAID, AGP/PCI lock, memory...

How's the new Celeron OC'ing going?

The new Celeron does do one thing well and thats media encoding, be it Divx/Xvid or mp3 encoding(check out this link). Just overclock it it 3Ghz+(which most 2Ghz Celerons will do)and it will hang with a 2.8Ghz P4 or XP2700 in the above tasks.

This isn't a Lian Li case its a modded Sky Hawk AL-4378 case that you can get for alot less. Mwave has the Sky Hawk version for $55(link)but it doesn't come with the window or blow holes.

Has anybody bought an Asus P4G8X from...

Myinfinity.com doesn't have them yet(eta is 12/04)so noones bought one. As far as Myinfinity.com being a good place to shop I checked ResellerRatings and there lifetime rating is only 2.24(compared that to NewEggs which is 9.58)so I would pray before I bought anything from them.

Radeon 9500 theory: Is it possible that... Edit:It's possible! HAH!

Hyper-Z was turned off by the drivers, it was not turned off in the hardware. So why would you want to turn on a 9500's broke pixel piplines?

Dell 4550 533MHz Bus, Dell's Bios Sucks.

The only other bios's that might work with your Dell's motherboard is a Intel bios and even if that worked you still wouldn't have overclocking options or memory tweaks.

Burning DVDs Question...

You can make one to one copies of DVD's(using Nero or RecordNow)IF the contents of the DVD are less than 4.3GB AND if the disc is not CSS encrypted but most DVD's are over 4.3GB and there encrypted. So unless you plan on learning now to downsample movies or you have access to group release DVD...

mIRC question

Getting someone IP is simple on IRC, all I have to do is right click on you name and pick Tools-->Information-->Resolve IP in the script I use and in a couple of seconds I have your IP. Can I hack your box with that info, maybe if you don't run a firewall or have your ports closed. If you want...

Help Requested: Bad PS, mobo, CPU, RAM??

Its your mobo. I had a Abit SD7-533 that did the same thing a couple weeks ago. I also had a 2.26GHz P4 installed and one day it wouldn't boot. I hit restart and all I got was a message about a bios checksum error and thats it, it never booted again.

Problems with my new comp

Yep, I was one of what seemed like a million people at Fry's this weekend :). The chip needs 1.575v to be stable at 2.5GHz. It will boot at 2.66GHz at the same voltage and run Prime without errors. I just tried using Nero to burn a cd of mp3's and it rebooted while it was checking the mp3's so...
